ROBERT I. BURTON, merchant, West Point, Indiana, is a native of Tippecanoe County, born in Wayne Township, July 12, 1855, a son of JAMES BURTON. He was reared on a farm, remaining at home until twenty years of age, when he located in West Point, and engaged in business in a small way, his capital being only $109. He has been industrious and energetic, and by his good management and fair dealing has built up a paying business, having gradually added to his stock until he now has one of the best stores in the place. In 1886 he added a meat market to his other business, which has proved a profitable venture. MR. BURTON is one of the prosperous young men of Tippecanoe County, and is already recognized as one of her prominent citizens. In 1881 he served as assessor of Wayne Township and since 1884 has been township trustee. In politics he is a Republican. He is a member of the Shawnee Lodge, No. 129, A. F & A. M., and Lafayette Lodge, No. 111, K. of P. He was married October 30, 1883, to MISS LAURA B. OILER, a daughter of AUGUSTUS OILER. They have two children--OTIS HERBERT and LELAND
