Will of Sarah DeWitt, Tippecanoe Co. Will Book Vol. 2, page 93-94:
I Sarah Dewitt of Tippecanoe County, and State of Indiana, do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made.
First I direct that my boddy (sic) be decently entered (sic) and my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my estate and situation in life, and as such wordly estate as it has pleased God to intrust (sic) me with I dispose of the same in the following to wit: I direct first that all my just debts and funeral expences (sic) be paid as soon after my decease as possible out of the first money that shall come into the hands of my executor from any portion of my estate, and I also direct that a fair valuation or appraisement be made by three judicious neighbors of all my pesonal property including my household furniture and after being by them signed with their names; that a copy by them be given to my Executors.
I also direct that all my personal property be sold which I shall die seized or possessed shall be sold by my executors for its reasonable value for cash or on such credit and the amount thereof be secured in such manner as is usual in like cases to insure the full and punctual payment thereof. I also direct that my sone (sic) John Martin and my daugher Elizabeth Farmer to each I bequeath the sum of two dollars, and I also direct that the net product of my personal estate herein before ordered by me to be disposed of be equally divided between John Large and Permilia Large my Grandchildren except that Permelia Large receive thirty dollars more than John. And I further bequeath to John and Permelia Large twenty five dillars each which is cash on hand, and I further direct that an equal division of all moneys due me be made by my Executor to John and Permelia Large and I further direct that all my estate whatsoever be equally divided between John and Permelia Large with the foregoing exceptions, and I hereby make and ordain my worthy and esteemed friend Lewis Shearer Executor of my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I Sarah Dewitt the testatrix have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 18th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight.
