William and Rhoda Pickett of Switzerland Co. were married 20 Aug 1811 in Kentucky. One of their children was Theopolis, who was listed with them in the 1850 Switzerland Co. census.
Some get him mixed up with Theodore L. Pickett, because Theodore is living beside William and Rhoda in the 1870 Census, yet Theodore L Pickett's parents aren't William and Rhoda. My question is : Has anyone any information on Theopolis? I only can find him in the 1850 census living with William and Rhoda. Is there a slight possiblility that Theopolis and Theodore L are the same person?

Hello, I don't have a Theopolis Pickett in my files, yet I have ancestors of the Pickett family living in Switzerland Co. IN. I have Theodore Lafayette Pickett born 2 Mar 1819, the son of Heathcoat Pickett and Mary Henry. Heathcoat Pickett was born in Virginia, and Mary Henry was born in Pennsylvania, yet when I find "my Theodore" he states, that both of his parents were born in Kentucky per the 1880 census. This can't be! I thought it was an "accident" that it was written this way, but you just brought to life another reason as to who this might be. Do you know who your Theopolis married? I also have a William Pickett who's wife was Rhoda, living in VeVay, Jefferson twp., Switzerland Co. in the 1860 census, they both state they were born in Virginia. I'm sure William Pickett and Heathcoat Pickett are related, bassed on their Virginia connection, but I don't know how they are connected. The Pickett name is rather a newer surline I've recently connected to in Athens Co. Ohio. Juliann Pickett d/o James Pickett & Temperance Price, had married John Mann on 1 December 1816. The Mann family then traveled with several members across Ohio, and into Indiana. The Mann family had a branch settle in Randolph Co. Indiana, and the Picketts went to Switzerland Co., my branch went on to Crawford Co. Illinois, and settled in Honey Creek twp. there. Theodore Lafayette Pickett b. 2 Mar 1819 in Fayette County, KY was the son of John H. and Caroline M. Back Pickett. The family moved to Switzerland County in 1825. He married Mary Ann Lee (3 Mar 1844), fought in the Civil War , died 16 Nov 1890, buried Vevay Cemetery. They had eight children. He was my husband's gr-grandfather.

William and Rhoda Pickett Pickett (cousins married) also came from Fayette County, KY to Switzerland County in 1826. William d. 9 Oct 1873. Rhoda d. 2 April 1878, in her 86th year. They were the parents of eight children including a son, Theophilus Pickett b. 1821 in Kentucky d. Jul 1855 in Vevay, IN.

There was another Lafayette Pickett in Switzerland County. He died 22 Dec 1843 aged 18 yr 3 mo 10 da and is buried in the Lee Cemetery, Cotton Township. Some researches list him as the son of Heathcoate Pickett II and Mary Henry but I do not know if this is correct..

I have five full folders of research on the Picketts of Switzerland County and will be glad to help anyone identify the many, many Picketts who descend from two separate Pickett families.

I have the parents of Thomas Pickett (1809/1810- 6 Jan 1882)
as:
Younger Pickett (1774-1861(?)) and Nancy Scott Pickett.

Thomas Pickett also had a brother named Younger Pickett (1838/1839-16 May 1921).
Thomas Pickett d. 6 Jan 1882 and is buried in the Vevay Cemetery, Lot 140 of the IOOF Lodge Section.

Do you have any evidence of Younger having a son William Henry Pickett that would be a possible brother to Thomas Pickett?

I am trying to research Theodore Lafayette Pickett married to Mary Ann Lee and am confused as to his paternity. I have seen it two ways and was needing help. Any information that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Theodore Lafayette Pickett was b. 2 Mar 1819 in Lexington, Fayette Co., KY. He was the son of John H. "Jack" Pickett and Caroline M. Back Pickett. The John H. Pickett family came to Switzerland County, IN in 1826, spent a few years in Hamilton Co., OH but returned to Switzerland County in the late 1830s.
John H. & Caroline Pickett had ten children. Theodore Lafayette and Mary Ann Lee Pickett had nine children. I can list them for you if you need them.
My sources for Theodore's father:(l) A newspaper account of Theodore Pickett's death on Nov. 16, 1890 gives his date and place of birth but does not list his parents name. It states "He came to Switzerland County with his parents when he was six years old." (2)Vevay Reveille, 23 May 1889 - Gives an account of a surprise birthday celebration for Jeptha D. Pickett, aged 65, and lists among those present, is only brother THEODORE, and his three sisters Mrs. Peter McMAkin, Mrs. Jonathan Myers, and Mrs.Ben Woolf. (3) Vevay Reveille, July 10, 1875 - "Died,Picket - At the residence of his son Jeptha Picket, near Vevay, July 5th, JOHN H. PICKETT, aged 85 years.
I believe this is proof enough that Jeptha and Theodore were brothers and that John H. was their father.
