Hi All-
I am the great(x3)-grandson of
Clark C
Phillips, so I have information on him. I have not found an obvious connection between him and the other
Phillips mentioned in your posts (ie, they were not brothers). Other siblings were Pamelia,
Bridget,
Abel, Lucina,
Augustus,
Asa, Harvey,
DeWitt and Lee
Phillips. Clark did have an uncle names Albert (1806-1864), but it looks like he died in
Warren Co, PA. I guess these
Phillips could all be cousins though.
Here is what I know about
Clark. Rev
Clark C
Phillips was born in NY State in 1823, the s/o Elisha
Phillips (1782
Preston CT - 1840 Russell PA) and Mary E Lewis (1791 Petersberg NY - 1886 Russell PA), who later settled in Russell,
Warren Co, PA.
Clark married twice, first to Mrs Mary Tyler on 19 Nov 1845 in
Switzerland Co. The couple had two of their own children (
Oliver Barr Phillips and Mary Nancy
Phillips Garman) and three from Mary Tyler's first marriage.
I suspect that Mary's maiden name was
Platt prior to her marriage to Mr Tyler, whose given name I have never discovered.
Clark was a minister with the Christian Church and thus, moved quite often. Shortly after his children were born in
Indiana, Clark's family moved to Greene County, OH and later settled near Troy, OH.
Mary was 10 years his senior and died in Troy in January 1889. Clark re-married in Nov 1889 to Elenor
Nutter of
Liberty,
Union Co,
Indiana and he lived there until her death in July 1908. I believe he then moved back to Troy OH to live with his daughter Mary
Garman until he died in Nov 1908.
Clark
Phillips' main lines go back to Rev George
Phillips who came to Watertown
MA in 1639 and Edmund Lewis who came to Westerley RI about the same time. You can find more info about these folks by searching google for the "Powers-Banks Ancestry" by WH
Powers available for free download on google books. I would be happy to share all info I had if you guys find some relation to
Clark.
Best,
Matt McDonald
