Shelley,

I found a marriage license on the INGenWeb - Vigo County site that might be your Bud Scott. The groom is listed as Bud Scott and the bride is listed and Alice Ruby. Bud's father is listed as Nathaniel Scott and mother Lucy Ann Burke.

Alice is listed as Alice Ruby. Father was David Mundell and mother was Jane Coon. It appears Alice was married prior to Bud Scott.

Here is the link: http://www.vigo.lib.in.us/SPC/marriages/8240/00151B.pdf

Hope this helps.....................Karen

I have nosed around a little trying to figure out what happened to Mary Bell Groves, but I have come up short. I have seen no obit for her, but since they are "cousins" I haven't spent as much time on them as I have my direct line. I need to try and remember to go to Terre Haute the next time I am in Indiana and see if I can find Bazil's tombstone. Hopefully her information is on his marker and I can at least know when she died.

Always happy to share information!

Debby Fritz Bukky
stated the Bud used the surname of Howard? How did you learn this? Do you know where he was between 1900 and 1920?
In 1930, "Bud" Scott is married to Alice Mundell. I assume Bud dies before 1932 as he is not mentioned in Alice's obit.

Thanks for any leads!
Shelley

I'm not related to this person.

Try -
Military Records = This is a FREE service!
You may wish to include a personal letter stating all info that you know.
Be sure to include any alternate spelling of the last name.
On line form allows you to request information from your, or your relative's, military personnel record. This option is only available if you are the veteran or next of kin (surviving spouse that has not remarried, father, mother, son, daughter, sister, or brother). Otherwise you will need to send in the SF180.
Yes, thank you. I was at that cemetery two years ago and added photos to my Ancestry.com tree and FindAGrave for the Marts family members I found there. FindAGrave identifies 26 Little Flock cemeteries around the US. I will keep Ms. Adam's email address for this and future information requests. Best Regards, Celeste.

I'm coming to Sullivan Co. about August 26 to do some research on the Rooksberry and Workens families. Is there anyone local who might be available and willing to meet with me and help me make the best use of my time there? Strawther and Matilda Rooksberry are buried in Center Ridge Cemetery, so would definitely like to go there.

Does the county clerk have the records I'd be interested in? deeds, marriage, death (maybe, censuses, etc.

Is there a local historical society that has an office? Who is the county historian?

Does the library have a genealogy section? Is there a local genealogy society?

Is there an index of cemeteries?

Any info that is provided will be most appreciated. I'd like to have my time be as productive as possible.

Thank you so much. (I don't have internet access all the time because we are traveling and staying at county parks, so it may take a few days for me to receive any reply and respond.)

Sue

Hi Celeste,

I got the infomation on Emily, from the Little Flock Cemetery List. Also, I think somewhere in my files I should have a picture of her marker. My father and brother and many of my ancestors are buried there and I tried to get pictures of all the markers. Unfrtunately, I'm in the middle of moving and a lot of my files are boxed up. I don't remember Seeing Sarah's marker there, but a lot of the older ones are getting very hard to read. I'll see If I can find my photos. My Reeds migrated from Pennsylvania to Indiana, to Illinois, and at every place they lived, there was a Little Flock Cemetery. Also, Chamberlain's daughter Martha is buried in the Antioch cemetery in Shelby, Illinois, so that might be another cemetery to look at.

Ken
Hope this helps

Excerpt from: " The Cuppy/Shriner Family History " by Walter O. Shriner

9. Sarah Ann Marts , the ninth child of Jacob Marts and his wife, Martha Reed, was born in
Vernon Township, Washington County, Indiana, on January 10, 1823. This daughter was named
for her maternal grandmother, Sarah Ann (Chamberlain) Marts. Sarah Ann was a minor at the
time her parents moved to Sullivan County, Indiana. She was seventeen when she married
Nathaniel Ernst in Sullivan County. On .June 17. 1844, Nathaniel Ernst and his wife, Sarah Ann,
sold forty acres which had been purchased at the Vincennes Land Office to Lidewich Ernst in
Sullivan County. Sarah Ann (Marts) Ernst was deceased by January 24, 1853, when her husband
was a witness to the signing of the Jacob Marts will; otherwise, Nathaniel Ernst would not have
been eligible as a witness. There is some indication that Nathaniel and Sarah Ann had moved their
family to Shelby County, Illinois in 1852 along with the Chamberlain Marts and. George W. Marts
families. It is possible that Sarah Ann died in Shelby County, Illinois, and that Nathaniel Ernst
then returned to Sullivan County, Indiana, with Sarah Ann's five small children. It should be
remembered that Sarah Ann’s mother, Martha (Reed) Marts died on September 29, 1852 so that
Sarah Ann, returning with her family from Shelby County, Illinois, for the funeral, may have
suffered from exposure while making that trip. At the time of the 1860 S. Census, Nathaniel Ernst
had a wife named Margaret, who was the mother of three small children born after 1854. Sarah
Ann (Marts) Ernst and her husband had a. family of five children: (1) Jacob H. Ernst born in
1841; (2) Lidewich Ernst, born in 1845; (3) Harriet Ernst, born in 1847; (4) Sabina Jane Ernst,
born in 1850; (5) Lucinda Ernst, born in 1851.

Hi Celeste,

I found this old query and was wondering if you ever figured out where arh was buried. I found some notes in my Marts/Ernest file, that said for a while Nathaniel and Sarah moved over to Shelby county, Illinois along with her brothers Chamberlin and George W. and their families and that is possible Sarah died there. Emily Pound, Chamberlin's wife is buried in the Little Flock Cemetery in the Flatbranch twp. in Sheby county. It's possible she could be there.

There is a Little Flock Cemetery in Sullivan County. If I remember correctly it is just north of Sullivan on Highway 41. You might check with Donna Adams at the Sullivan County Library for further information. I believe she would have a listing of those buried there. Email her at Dadams@sullivan.lib.in.us

I am sorry, but I don't believe there are any other clippings. I think I posted everything that seemed to have genealogy significance. Most clippings were undated and I don't know why my grandparents saved the clippings. Most of the clippings do not seem to have ancestrial connections to my own family research. Perhaps these folks were neighbors or friends. Nevertheless their lives must have crossed when my grandparents lived in Sullivan & Vigo County.
I am pleased the clipping might have shed some insight to your search. Good luck to you as you continue in your quest.

The best place to start your research is located in the basement of the library in Sullivan. From there they can direct you to the records. Nice folks to work with. There is a problem if you are looking for grave markers. For some reason that i have not found the answerto several of the markers have been removed from the local cemetarys.
10 yr ago I took pictures of several of my relatives markers, but this year their markers are not in the cemetarys.

The person you need to check with at the library is Donna Adams. She has been extremely helpful with me in the past. Also, when you go to the court house After you check what they have upstairs tell them you would like to check the files in the basement. You will need to get directions and someone to tell you how the files are maintained. There is a wealth of information. There is also a genealogical society which, I believe, is just across the street from the court house. Don Smith

My grandmother Gladys Sheffler was kind enough to let me have some of her family photos. This is her husband Gaylord Shake's class picture, he is third from the right, second row from the top. I'm having to guess on the year of this photo, maybe first or second grade. I'm hoping someone else will see one of their kin in the photo and help me indentify some of the other children.
Kristi Walters Sircy

Edward Smith (abt 1818- England)/Della Quince Smith Family

I am looking for any information on the Edward Smith (b. abt 1818 in England) and was married to Della 'Delley' Quince (b. abt 1828 in PA). They came to Curry, Sullivan from Kentucky around the late 1860s and appear on the 1870 and 1880 census there. Their children that lived with them during that time are Edward (b. 1859 Illinois), George S. Smith (b. 1862 Ohio, William (b. 1865 Illinois), Alexander & Henry (Twins b. 1867, Indiana), James (b. 1870, Indiana) and Della [Johns Decker](b. 1871, Indiana).

I believe that Edward may have died in Sullivan and would appreciate any information on the location of his grave. Henry L. Smith (twin of Alexander was my GGgrandfather). I have information regarding he and Alexander, and would love to find out more about the other family members.

I appreciate any help that you might be able to offer.
Have a wonderful day!
Julie
