Have you seen THE VARNER FAMILY; DESCENDANTS OF ADAM AND CHRISTINA VARNER OF THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY IN VIRGINIA by Micki Donnelly, or DESCENDANTS OF ADAM AND CHRISTINA VARNER compiled by Leta E. Alley? Adam and Christina are ancestors of Joseph VARNER. I have copies of these compilations.

1860 Huff Twp., Spencer Co., Indiana
Enumeration Date: July 26, 1860

Line: 31
Dwelling/Family: 579/577

Varner, Joseph - age 59, farmer, born in Kentucky
" America - age 45, born in Kentucky
" Henry - age 18, born in Indiana
" Nicholas - age 15, born in Indiana
" Jane - age 14, born in Indiana
" Martha A. - age 7, born in Indiana
" Jane J. - age 4, born in Indiana
" Sarah E. - age 3, born in Indiana

Joseph & America were married in Spencer Co., in May of 1850. The 1850 census shows his children; Maria, Malinda S., Emma, Joseph, Henry, Nicholas & Ben F. and America's children from her prior marriage, Catherine, Elizabeth & Emily J. In the 1860 census it looks like Ben F. (who was 3 yrs in 1850) is deceased, the older children are out of the household and together Joseph and America had Martha A., Jane J. & Sarah E. by 1860. Wasn't able to locate this family after 1860.

Hope this helps..................Karen

I am descended from Michael Prosser, brother of Mary Prosser. They were b.in NY in Schohaire Co. to Jonathan C. Prosser and Christina Simmons. We thought Jonathan's father was Benjamin of Pawling, Dutchess Co. but according to his will it is not likely. The names Benjamin and Henry show in the Varner children and are repeated in the other families. No one knows what the C. in the Prosser name stands for. I was hoping to find someone who might have another lead.

My great grandfather was Allen Varner (1871 to 1953) and he lived in Gause, TX. I can tell from census records that he was born in Indiana and that both of his parents were from Indiana. The earliest census records I can find show him living in TX in 1900. I'm trying to find out if he is originally one of the Spencer Co. Varners.

According to another family tree I found on Ancestry.com it looks like my great grandfather had two brothers, Clarence and Edward. His parents were Joseph Varner and Mary Prosser.

It sounds like you are also researching this family line. Do you have any information indicating that Joseph Varner and Mary Prosser had three boys . . . Allen, Clarence and Edward? And that Allen moved to Texas?

Any help would be great. Thanks.
