Obituary: Mrs. Christina (Krause) Kanzler was born January 2, 1839 at Blankenberg, Bavaria. Here her childhood was spent. In 1850 she emigrated with her parents and many relatives to America. After a short stay at Cincinnati they came to Spencer county where the rest of her life was spent. In 1860 she was united in marriage with Mr. Fredrick Kanzler. To them were born nine children, six sons and three daughters, five of whom and the husband have answered the final summons. Mrs. Kanzler was a member of the German Evangelical church for more than fifty years, living a consistent Christian life, beloved by all who knew her for her gentle and sympathizing disposition. She was taken sick about five weeks before her death with a paralytic stroke which left her very weak, and on February 11th, a second attack came, death ensuing very suddenly. She leaves of her immediate family one daughter and three sons, namely Mrs. George Schnicker, Frederick, Charles and Rev. Gustave. Besides these fourteen grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Bockstahler and Mrs. H.F. Tonnemacher, besides many relatives and friends are left to mourn the sudden death of one loves so dearly. Funeral services was conducted by her pastor, Rev. Chas. Meyer, Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 at the home and was attended by a large concourse of friends. The remains were laid to rest under a covering of floral designs in the family lot in the Leistner cemetery. C.F.T. source: Rockport Journal 22 Feb 1907

Do you have any information regarding any of the Tonnemachers? My great grandfather's parents lived in Evansville and I have been going back researching this part of my life. My great grandfather's name was George William Tonnemacher and his relatives helped start St John's Church. Any information would be greatly appreciated

George William Tonnemacher is my great grandfather as well and he is the same as the one you are referring to. I have some information about him. We all called him POPEYE because he smoked a pipe. We all loved him very much and there wasn't anyone I know ever said any differently. I know I have pictures as well although not many. I just started back into all of this family again as I had put it aside for a while working and not being at home very much
