I am a descendant of Daniel Williams and Mary Kimberlin Williams. Daniel was a younger brother to your John Williams. Daniel moved to Shelby County, IN. in the 1820s.

I was really happy to find your post and to see the wonderful old photo of your Williams family. I've got quite a lot of information on Daniel's family and would be happy to share.

If you're interested, please email me: williams.seeker at gmail.com.

Best wishes,
Judith

Hi Diane
It has been a couple of months since we last emailed about the James, Spencer and Duvall families. After looking at my OLD files I believe there maybe a connection to Thomas James and my John James wife Polly Carrol . The Spencer and James families as you found were in Scott Co Ind at the same period.
I have another person I have been working with Willa Mae for about 10 years trying to connect the James and Spencer families. I just got a new keyboard and having a devil of a time keying if you see typos. Please keep in touch!!!
Bettye
OHIBETTE@sbcglobal.net
trying to find more about Keziah and Daniel James.
Yes, Lavisa "Vice" LaMaster is on the left, her husband Samuel Williams is below her on the left. Samuel Williams was the brother-in-law (brother of Joseph's first wife Mary Jane Williams) of Joseph Williams on the right. Woman on the right was Joseph's second wife Effie Woods. Vice and Samuel helped raise the children of Joseph and Mary Jane Williams after her death.

This picture was found in my grandmother's things, in an envelope marked "Williams". She was the daughter of Rosa Williams and Lewis Cass LaMaster....Rosa was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Jane Williams.

Williams Family

This line is very complicated, and I am still piecing it together. This is what I believe to be true based on family memory and info. sent to me by others:

My great-grandmother was Rosa Jane Williams. Her parents were Joseph A.Williams (born Feb. 1871) and **Mary Jane Williams (b. June 19, 1874) Williams was Mary Jane's maiden name as well as her married name. They had three children: Thomas (who died overseas during WWI) Rosa Jane (who married Lewis Cass Lamaster) and Mary Elizabeth "Molly" (who married Henry Entemen). Thomas, Rosa and Molly lived with their mother's brother, Samuel Williams and his wife Lavisa LaMaster (Lavisa "Vise" was the sister of Lewis Cass LaMaster who married Rosa Jane Williams)

Joseph A. Williams was the son of Francis M. Williams (b. 1842 in Scott Co., married Oct. 18, 1861 in Clark Co.) Francis married Sarah Jane Alstott (b. 1841). Francis and Sarah had the following children: John Lawrence Williams (born 1866, md. Florence Eliza Sommerville), Joseph A. Williams (md. Mary Jane Williams then Effie Wood), William Williams, Bertha Williams and Frannie Williams.

Francis M. Williams was the s/o Hezekiah Williams (b. abt. 1823 in Scott Co, md. Jan. 2, 1842 in Scott Co.) Hezekiah md. Mary Ann Harris (b. 1821 in Pulaski Co., KY). They had the following children: Hezekiah Jr., George W., Francis M., Sarah J., John L., and Martha.

Hezekiah was the s/o John Williams (b. 1788 in Virginia, md. Dec. 28, 1809 in Clark Co., IN). John married Susan Kimberlin (d/o John Kimberlin and Ruth Jones). They had the following children: Lavina (b. 1812, Clark Co., md. Stephen Johnson), Sarah (b. 1815, Scott Co., md. Charles Whitlatch), Reece (b. 1817, Scott Co., md. Sarah Smith), Nancy (b. 1819, Scott Co., md. Nathan Camper), Samuel (b. 1822, md. Nancy Kimberlin), Hezekiah, Mary (b. 1824, Scott Co., md. Henry Fulkerson), George W. (b. 1830, Scott Co., md. Catherine Robbins) and Priscilla (b. 1833, Scott Co.)

**Mary Jane Williams (b. 1874, md. Joseph A. Williams) was the d/o James A. Williams (d.1877, buried Bridgewater Cemetery, Scott Co.) and Mary Elizabeth Smith (b. 1842 in Ohio, died May 1, 1912 in Scott Co., she married 2nd George W. Williams s/o above mentioned Hezekiah Williams). James A. Williams and Mary Elizabeth Smith had the following children: Sameul E. (b. 1872, md Lavisa LaMaster), Mary Jane (b. 1874, md. Joseph A. Williams), James (b. 1874, md Ida McQuillen), Martha Birdella (b. 1877, md. Jesse Collman). Mary Elizabeth Smith Williams had the following children with George W.: Magnolia, b. 1862, Margaret Ellen, b. 1865 and William b. 1870. James A. Williams and George W. Williams are buried side-by-side at the Bridgewater Cemetery in Scott Co., Indiana.

Would love to know who James A. Williams parents were, I have not been able to tie him to the other Williams mentioned. Any additions or corrections would be appreciated!

I do not have any information on his parents....this is what I have from my great-aunts files.....Alexander and Susannah Ardrey were first buried in the southeast corner of where Boatman Road and 22 W. crosses county road 150 S. Near where Houghland lived. Their stone was later moved to the Zoah Cemetery. (note: roads have been renamed in recent years, Boatman Rd. is the same but the numbered ones have been named).

Taken from the Scott Co. Chronicle July 8, 197?

Alexander Ardery was born in County Tyrone, Ireland in 1785. He came to the United States in 1807. We do not know when he came to Scott County, but he was counted in the 1820 census, with his wife Susannah and their five children. So he was one of our early pioneers.

These are very old posts on this message board, so I'm hoping someone will see this and respond. I, too, am searching for Daniel James and Keziah. Did Daniel have a wife before Keziah? Several James' researchers show him having a wife, Lydia Badley/Bradley from Maryland, by whom his children were born. I have never been able to prove her being his wife. I descend from his son, Thomas, who married Priscilla Spencer in Henry County, KY. The family moved to Scott Co., IN, and I believe Daniel may have died there. Thomas & Priscilla moved to IL. Most of their children moved on to Kansas. I do have information on Martha Priscilla James who married Haley East and their children. I hope someone has more information on Daniel James that they are willing to share.

On Easter Sunday, Uncle Jim told me that someone at Hancock's had asked him if he was related to the Yount's. Uncle Jim said yes, his great-grandmother was a Yount. The person told him that there was a photo album at the antique mall with Craig's and Yount's in it. Uncle Jim went up and talked to the lady, she collected antique photo albums and did not want to sell it, but she showed it to him. In it was the obitutary for Rachel Yount Craig, his great-grandmother along with many pictures, some marked and some not marked. He asked me to go and look at it. Scott and I took my genealogy book up there the next day, I was able to identify many of the pictures, Scott tried to buy it from her with no luck, but she was kind enough to let me take it and scan the pictures. I took it back to her the next day with a gift card to thank her. After a couple of weeks she decided that she would sell it to him. The photos are tin types, which dates it to the 1800's. They include my gggrandparents Rachel Yount and Henry Edward Craig as well as some of her sibilings and her parents Jonathan Yount and Amanda Dickey Yount.
Yes, he had only been in abt. a month when he contracted typhus. Joseph P. L. Stark was in Co. A, 122 Ill. Vol. Inf.
His wife made application for a widow's pension and one of his children applied for minor child benefits. Tremendous amount of info in those records. His son Abraham R. Stark was in the same company and survived the war, but died in 1877. His son Theodore D. Stark was in Co. E., 143 Ill. Vol.
Son-in-law Reason Eli Friend appears to have been in that outfit also. I'm fairly sure that son-in-law ___ Bottoms was killed in service, if I just knew his first name.

Some say Liston, but I have no proof. Joseph P. L. Stark died of typhus 24 Sep 1864 and Caroline then married James M. Stark. She died 2 Apr 1879.

Caroline Sample married Joseph P. L. Stark, Scott Co., IN, 22 Mar 1843. It is possible that Caroline was the daughter of Robert Sample and Jane McClain. She was born either the 7th of Feb or the 8th of Mar 1826 in Indiana. Robert Sample died in 1844 in Jackson Co., IN, but widow Jane Sample is listed on the 1850 and 1860 in Scott Co., with sons Alexander and William Sample. Any info is appreciated.

I have done a lot of research on Emsley Hooker and Sarah Ann (Madden) Beck. I am not sure if Sarah is related to me.
Do you know who the parents of Sarah Madden Beck are? I am trying to find out if Madden was the maiden name of Sarah or if her full name was Sarah Madden Beck. My gr-gr-gr grandparents were Madden Beck and Rebecca Hatley. In the 1840 Indiana Census they were living in Clark Co. Have you communicated with any of the Hooker family that are still living in the Tazewell Co. and Logan Co., Illinois area? Sarah was b. 1818 in Rowan Co., NC. At the time Rebecca Hatley was married to a man with the last name of Madden. If I could find out if Sarah was a daughter of Rebecca Hatley that would solve a lot of questions.
Thank you for replying to my Query.
Please email me at:
bblimm@comcast.net
Barbara
Merrillville, IN

Emsley Hooker, Sr. was born abt. 1807 in NC. He married Eliza Hughbanks 4 Oct. 1829 Scott Co. IN. Eliza was daughter of Thomas Hughbanks and Susannah Craig. Emsley and Eliza were parents of four sons, William Thomas, John Wesley, Lorenzo Dow and Emsley, Jr. Eliza died ca 1840-41 and her father Thomas Hughbanks became the legal guardian of the four boys. Emsley Hooker, Sr. re-married to Sarah Ann (Madden) Beck 28 Nov 1841 Clark Co IN. Emsley and Sarah were parents of seven. Lorenzo Dow Hooker was my gr grandfather, through his daughter Mary Elizabeth (Hooker) Lawson b. 12 March 1869 in Jackson Co. IN, third of the eleven children of Lorenzo Dow and Charlotte Jane (Murphy) Hooker. Much of my history of the Emsley Hooker family is from Mary E. who died 9 May, 1943 just weeks after I left for Army service in WW II. I have assembled family history for decades and have visited many states and communicated with Hooker (and other)descendants. Will share. Eldon E. Lawson.

John Curtis Burnett/ Sarah Spellman/ John M Burnett

My great grandfather, John Curtis Burnett, born 1869 in Indiana. His parents were Sarah Spellman Burnett (1831-1902) born in Ohio and John M Burnett (1830-1902) born in Indiana. They moved and lived in Jennings, Scott County, Indiana till their death. Their other children were: Columbus, Mary, Francis, F.M., and Adam. The family were farmers, but John Curtis became a mail carrier and married Myrle Bridwell (1880- 1930) around 1899 in Clay County, Indiana. They were divorced by the 1910 Census, it had four children together who were raised by Myrtle's father & mother, Hannah and Alfred Bridwell in Clay County. My grandmother, Lillian Mae, and her siblings were estranged with both their parents, but we don't know why. If you have any information about the Burnett family in Scott County, IN PLEASE help. Thank you !!!

Hi George,

I have long searched for info and pictures of the Wiggam School, and was delighted to find your postings on Ancestry. As a small child I recall Stella Francis coming to visit my mother, and since she was not very skilled at driving she would always say she had to go down to the school house to turn her car around. Of course there was no school there in the mid 40's, but she was referring to the intersection that is now known as Terry Road and Burn Road. I believe Stella may have actually attended that school at one time.

I would be so grateful if you would e-mail me copies of the two photos you have of that school.

By the name, I'm assuming you must be a descendant of John Wiggam who originally donated the land for the school. That property has been owned by my older brother for the past fifty years. Jim Smith
Riverside, Calif.
