I can help you a little with the Randolph Co. ADDINGTONs and I have a cousin who can help you even more. There is also a good ADDINGTON book at the Randolph Co. library in Winchester

I am actually researching Kelly family of Randolph Co. I believe Susannah (Susan) Kelly was a sister to my g-g-grandmother, Lydia Kelly. I am hoping to find someone who may have researched Susannah and her husband, James Addington, or who may be able to tell names of their children. I would also like to know where Susannah and James Addington ended up.

Is your Lydia Kelly the wife of Samuel Lasley ?? If so I have a lot of Lasley info. The only child I have for Susan Kelly & James Addington so far is Mary b:1837 who married James Curtis Dodd s/o Salathial Dodd & Jane Cunningham

Yes, Lydia Kelly md. Samuel Lasley. She was later widowed and married Benjamin Taylor in 1879 in Muncie, Indiana. I would appreciate any Lasley info you care to share. I do have a copy of the Lasley Genealogy completed by Ruth Wilmore that was obtained through the Randolph Co. Gen. & Hist. Society. The Wilmore work has a few holes and errors (at least for my branch of the family).

LDS records do not show Lydia as a child of Jacob and Jemima Kelly. However...a Jemima Kelly is shown living with her son, John, next to Lydia Kelly Lasley in the 1850 census. The ages listed for Jemima and son, John, match those shown in LDS records.

Family lore states that Lydia's dau., Priscilla, was named after Lydia's sister.

I am fairly confident that Lydia was a dau. of Jemima and Jacob Kelly, and sister to Susannah....I just can't prove it.

My husband is a descendant of Jemima Kelly's husband, Jacob Kelly, through his first wife, Margaret Gore. Jacob and Margaret had a son, James, who married Elizabeth Johnson. James' son, Lewis Kelly, lived next to Jemima Kelly. I found a James Kelly on the 1830 and 1840 Randolph censuses with sons the right age of Lewis and his brother, Clark Kelly. There were also daughters in the household. I wonder if Lydia might be a daughter of James, and therefore a step-granddaughter of Jemima.

There is an unknown Nancy Kelly, age 19, living in the Walter and Priscilla Kelly Monks h/h in 1850 who also fits the age of a daughter in James Kelly's h/h. Jacob and Jemima Kelly had a daughter named Priscilla. Is she the one who m. Walter S. Monks?

James Kelly also left an orphaned son, Jacob, who lived in his brother Lewis's home in 1850. You might find this interesting: Family History Library Microfilm, 1666650. Randolph Co. IN probate orders Book 3-5, 1843-1857, "On application of Clark Kelly...the sum of twenty dollars for keeping Jacob Kelly, orphaned heir of James Kelly, deceased (between the ages of 5-9 years of age), for clothing and __ for three years...court allows said Clark the said sum of twenty dollars and ordered that James L. Addington his guardian pay said Clark Kelley said sum of twenty dollars out of any money in his hands belonging to said Jacob Kelly." Page 335, Jan term 1856.

Since Lydia was not named as an heir of Jacob in his will, I think it more likely that she was a granddaughter. There are several grandchildren unaccounted for among Jacob's older children, including children of our line, Thornton Kelly.

What are your thoughts about that possibility?

If I remember correctly, you has asked for a photo of Jemima's head stone. We had the rededication today of the old cemetery, and after people left I photographed all of the stones that were found, reset, cleaned and mended. I will send you her stone photo if you e-mail me off list. sharplongancestors@yahoo.com
It was a lovely ceremony despite the rain. Jane and I didn't melt though, did we Jane. I will edit the video I took tonight and into tomorrow and will be adding it to the cemetery page for the Old Winchester/Heaston Cemetery. Andrea
