I would like to direct your attention to the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame entry for Hilton Ultimus BROWN. It says that after his parents died, he was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Joshua R. McKIBBEN (note spelling), relatives. Don't known whether his brother Demarchus Clariton BROWN (b. 24 Jun 1857, Indianapolis, IN-d. 19 Aug 1926, Indianapolis, IN), a Butler grad, Butler professor and later State Librarian of Indiana was also adopted by them. Amptor and Femina are siblings (NOT children) of Hilton and Demarchus, but they died in childhood. The ten children of Hilton U. BROWN and his wife Jennie (HANNAH) BROWN are listed in the article mentioned above. Demarchus BROWN had no children by his first wife S. Anna RUDY whom he married in 1881 in Paris, IL. She died in 1891. By his second wife Jessie Lanier (CHRISTIAN) BROWN whom he married in 1897, he had a son Philip Christian BROWN (b. 14 Mar 1901, Indianapolis, IN- d. 16 May 1991, Cocoa Beach, FL). Philip C. BROWN married Elora WARD and had a son Philip (b. 1938, IN-d. 1967, AK). It seems this man also had a son Philip who died in infancy and may have a surviving wife but family tree on Ancestry is marked "private." --Maribeth, Indianapolis [NOTE: I am not family but interested in Butler Univ. early families and especially in Jessie (CHRISTIAN) BROWN who was a founder of the local Indiana Gamma Chapter of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity at Butler College/now University.]
