Charles Matson married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Farrow, Charles's brother Courtland Matson married Lizzie's sister, Mary Nelson Farrow and I am the g g g granddaughter, so we are looking for the exact same line on both sides. I have pictures of your Aunt Jessie as a child and Frank Hayden too. I have quite a few pictures that I cannot identify that may be Matsons and Farrows (in fact I'm sure they are, just don't know who is who), hoping you can help or I can help you. This family tree is posted on www.genebase.com and it's very easy to understand and contribute information that you may have.

Hey Margaret, Do you know anything about John A. Matson's brother William? Did he have any children? Apparently there were possibly 2 Matson families in Indiana and not sure if they tie in anywhere.

Some of these names listed in your message seem very familiar, and probably related to my own lines. Are you familiar with the Alexander S. Farrow cemetery just off the intersection of US 36 and US 231, west of Bainbridge and north of Greencastle? There are a number of Farrow graves there, along with my great grandfather, Oliver Badger Williams 1807-1871, who was related to them, through his grandmother, Mary Hathaway Badger Taylor Nelson. A daughter of William Nelson and Mary, one "Polly" (actually another Mary) married Richard Farrow. I still haven't constructed all the interrelationships, but I would love to explore what trees you have been able to develop.

I am a Matson descendant who is interested in all branches of Captain John Matson's family. Captain Matson (ca 1740-1804) died in Hamilton County, Ohio. John A. Matson was the grandson of Captain Matson. I would like to learn more about the descendants of John A. Matson's son Charles Mason who married Elizabeth Farrow Matson. Perhaps Robert H. Matson Jr., who responded to one of these queries, has changed his e-mail address? He descends from Charles and Elizabeth Matson

It's very possible there is a relationship, I pretty much placed most of the farrows in Greencastle in my tree somewhere, but there are a few I cannot connect yet. ( I like to be sure). One thing I've done just recently is scan all of my old pictures, identified and unidentified, in www.ancientfaces.com . This website is wonderful and I hope it will catch on and will have many more pictures to review. Back then, they usually had more formal pictures taken and you may find that some of the pictures you have are the same people. Most of mine are from a Greencastle studio, so I'm sure they are Peck, Matson or Farrow. Margaret, I hope you will do the same. It would be great to put faces with names and vice versa.

I've looked some of this up in my database and our family bible, who belonged to Rees Matson, son of Courtland C. Matson and Mary Nelson Farrow, states that Richard Shores Farrow b. 2/21/1800 d. in Greencastle, IN. married Mary Nelson b. 7/11/1800. William's parents were William Nelson & Mary Hathaway (doesn't have any dates or locations on them). Richard's parents were William L. Farrow and Lizzy Shores (again, no other info). Then it has 1/2 a page on siblings of Richard, but nothing else on the Marys. I also have many letters from William L. Farrow to Richard S. Farrow that states their relationship to each other. I have a few Alexander Farrows with Taylor connections, but the Alexander that is the first born to Richard & Mary, would be the only one to have carried down the Nelson AND the Hathaway name.

Looks like we have some of the same ancestors in our respective data bases. Could you send me a family group sheet of what you have on children of Mary Hathaway and William Nelson, along with the Farrows, and I'll reply with what I have, including sources.

Ok Margaret, I've finished posting all pictures that I have, even the ones I cannot identify, pertaining to the Farrows, Matsons, Haydens and Browns on www.ancientfaces.com.
If you just search one of the last names or the locations..Greencastle, Bainbridge or Indianapolis, you should be able to find them all.

Surnames: Captain John Matson
I am a direct decendant of Captain John Matson, my fathers name was James as was my grandfather's also. I have all of the history of this branch of the family. Capt John was given a tract of land along the Great Miami River not too far from the town of Cleves Ohio, in Hamilton County where I was raised. Legend has it he came down river with several brothers. He himself started a grist mill in Cleves, the mill is long gone. I know about where the old Captain is buried, but the headstone is long gone also.
If you would like more information feel free to contact me. I am a member of The Catharine Greene Chapter Ohio Society DAR.
