Has anyone been doing research on early Brown Twp area of Montgomery Co. I am working on the Alexander Wasson family that came to Brown Twp from Shelby Co, KY. Alexander had a large family, daughters that would have married and formed other family names. Also, Alexander had at least 1 uncle that came to Brown Twp from Rockbridge Co, VA.

My Clouse family came to Brown Twp in 1829. They came from Garrard County, KY with the Ruffners and Liters of Harrison and Bourbon Counties, respectively. I believe, for a variety of reasons, that they had some kind of tie(s) to Shelby County, but haven't been able to spend enough time to discover what it was.

Thanks for your response. I have seen those names but I don't have access to census or marriage records for VA & KY so I don't have much on possible other family connections. If you wouldn't mind sharing your knowledge with me. My email address is nmkauth@ilstu.edu. Thank you again.

There is almost certianly a connection but I don't think I've found Ellis, Hanna or Booker families yet. there is a Hanna family connected to Adams co, OH from Rockbridge Co, VA. Have you checked on that?

Perhaps we need a listing that people could add surnames to on the Montgomery Co genweb page. My VanCleave, McMullen, and Kearns families came to southern Montgomery Co from Shelby Co KY. They travelled with Allen kin, Joseph Allen having come ahead and picked out land. Perhaps he acted as agent for several families, or some family representatives may have travelled with him.

It might be useful to see when families entered their land, to see if the dates showed a connection.

Jeff, what I think might be instructive is to have a space to show where the ancestors migrated from. In this instance, several people have noted that their ancestors came from Shelby Co KY to Montgomery Co IN. There might be some genealogical gain in knowing who came from the same area and who came as a group.

We have discussed doing this on the website, and there is a Migrations sub-project "out there" in USGenWeb, I see no reason not to add a notes column to our researcher pages which can reference things like this.

Jeff,
Let us know when we can add this information. I think it will stimulate connections and information-sharing, hopefully on the Montgomery Co web page.
