There would be a strong connection with Methodist church as my Great-great grandfather, Eli P. Farmer, Father of Thomas Burton Farmer husband to Louisa A. Pauley was a methodist circut rider on the Illinois and Indiana circut. Eli's son,
William M. Farmer was a methodist minister.

Thank you for your message. I have searched my WOOD database & don't have a link to the FARMER family at this time. My WOOD family settled in Monroe CO, IN in 1824 (at the marriage of my great-great-grandparents, Emsley WOOD and Elizabeth WORLEY). At this time, I have 10 of their children identified but there may be more that I don't know about. George is a WOOD family name. My great-grandparents, William E. WOOD & Sarah/Susannah Jane ROBINSON named their oldest child George Washington WOOD (b. 1847 Monroe CO). George was married to 1) a DUBOIS and 2) a WILLIAMS. I think that Emsley WOOD had at least two brothers who also settled in Monroe CO but haven't proven that yet. Emsley WOOD's land was in the southwestern portion of Washington Twp, Monroe CO. The WOOD/WORLEY family appear to all have been Methodists although the WORLEY family were Quakers (from OH & NC) before coming to IN. Please let me know if you would like more information.

Relative to the Wood side of your family. Anna Farmer Wood was from an old pioneer Monroe County family and lived on the family homestead established west of Bloomington, ID. in 1830 by Eli P. Farmer. She was one of four children of Rev. William M. Farmer, her brothers being Rev. William Burton Farmer, Edward Dallas Farmer. Her husband was George Wood. She was survived at her death by nieces & nephews including James Farmer, Mrs. Raymond Jones, Terre Haute; Fred E. Farmer, Lafayette,IN; Mrs. John E. Stempel, Bloomington; and E. D. Farmer Jr. of Indianapolis. William M. Farmer was my great grandfather, Thomas Burton Farmer's brother.

Just received a letter from my cousin in which she quotes excerpts from several letters written by our grandfather's sister. (My grandfather is Marion Emsley WOOD b. 1852 Monroe CO, IN). One excerpt dated 7 Jun 1926 says "Cousin George WOOD married Anna FARMER and is planning a WOOD-PRUETT reunion on Labor Day." in Monroe CO, IN. I don't know how "Cousin George WOOD" is connected to my WOOD family. Do you have any information on George & his wife Anna FARMER WOOD? Thank you

Do you know of a James and Martha Wood in the family. They had a daughter born in 1822 in Monroe named Sarah. This may be our family that later moved to Vermillion County IN. I found this on the IGI Family Search.

My family line includes Nancy Tansy Worley and Jesse W. Knighten Jr. Their children are: Elizabeth Knighten b. ca. 1814 (my g-g-g-grandmother), Susan Knighten b. ca.1815, James Preston Knighten b. 12-13-1819, Nicholas Knighten b. ca. 1820 and Lovel T. Knighten.

James P. m. Mary C. Puet 3-8-1846, John m. dlizabeth Moss 12-1-1825, Lovel T. m. Mancy Cord 3-25-1841, and Susan m. Solomon P. Pauley 3-24-1938. All marriages were in Monroe Co. IN.

My current search is Elizabeth Knighten's first husband, Charles Cunningham b. in PA. They had one son William Jasper Cunningham 12-20-1835 born in Indiana. Charles died and Elizabeth is head of household with young WJ in 1840 census Clay Co. IN.

Have you run across any Cunningham mentions in your family research. A family friend, relative or marriage or Methodist church member? I'm having a hard time finding anything on my Charles Cunningham. It is said he operated a tanning business.

In 1844 Elizabeth married Rev. James Cummings, a methodist minister.

Any info would be great. Teresa

I am helping a Stout family member with research.
One Stout married a Worley, one a Puett, another a Houston; would love to work with you on these families. The Stouts were pioneers in Monroe Co, IN. Some of the neighboring counties are Lawrence, Greene, Owen, Morgan, & Brown.

Hahnsy,

What are the first names of your Worley and Puett? Are they related to the Nancy Tansy Worley line? Is your Puett related to Mary C. Puett who married James P. Knighten? Is there any Stout pioneer family stories that mention a neighboring Cunningham family? Teresa
