Zoe was born 4 March 1917 in Franklin Twp., Marion County, IN, the daughter of Archer Clyde Shirley and Blanche Gardner. They lived on East Hanna Avenue. James Sonday is shown in the 1930 census living in Indianapolis with his father William C. Sonday.

Where were James and Zoe married? The marriage date of 14 December 1936 is posted on Ancestry.com by a user but the user only lists Indiana as the location. The poster will not respond to emails. James and Zoe are not listed in the marriage records of Marion County.

James and Zoe attended Bellaire Methodist Church in Indianapolis. Zoe died in Indianapolis on 1 November 1966 and is buried in Orchard Hill Cemetery in Wanamaker. Jim remarried and moved to Ninevah, Indiana when he retired. He died there and is buried in Portland, Indiana.

Any ideas about their marriage location?
Flora Belle Hess; birth mother of Coy and Elsie A. Palmer

Seeking information about Flora Belle Hess, b. abt 1870 to David McBride and Nancy Jane Hess in Ripley County IN. Some other children David McBride and Nancy Hess had were: Andrew, Lavisa, Thomas, Sarah, John, and Mary.

Flora Belle Hess married Blaney Palmer JR in Ripley County IN and had two children: Coy born Mar 1890 and Elsie A. born around 1894. Flora and Blaney JR reportedly divorced sometime after Elsie A's birth. Their children placed in a Catholic orphanage in Alton IL around 1897/1900 time frame - but weren't adopted, so retained the Palmer surname. A Blaney Palmer is listed in the Illinois death index as passing away in Alton IL in 1929.

According to online posts I have come across - Flora Belle moved to Marion County/Indianapolis after the divorce and married. I am trying to find more information about this and/or if her second marriage resulted in any more children and/or date of death.

I seem to recall a long time ago a family member sharing that Coy breifly lived in the Muncie IN area sometime around 1923/1930 time frame before settling in Daviess County IN (1930 census confirms him living in Daviess County) and that Elsie A. also lived in Muncie IN and thought to have married.

There is a Mrs. Charles (Deleane) Thompson who has an obit printed in Leader-Tribune on June 23, 1953 or in the Chronicle on June 22 and June 23, 1953. I am having a really hard time tracing this family from Minnesota and this may help some! Charles was the son of Eugene and Katherine (nee Hayes or Hays) Thompson whom I cannot trace either.
Charles and Deleane had one son, Eugene Charles Thompson, who married a Barbara. They had three daughters. That is all I know at this point. Like I said, I am stuck and can't get anywhere on this family! Please help!

Patterson on 10 Nov 1925 after being divorced from my Grandfather, Ralph James Trobaugh Sr. Last known city of residence was, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Does someone have access to the Indianapolis Directories 1880-1890? I want to find out when Jesse Franklin Johnson died. He is listed in the 1880 Indianapolis census on St Joseph street. He was a sadler and had a livery. He may have died in 1887. Sometimes he was Jesse Johnson, sometimes Jesse Johnston. Sometimes he went by Frank or Franklin as well! Does someone have directories to do a lookup for me?
THANKS!
Karen
Looking for other Sullivan's in Indianapolis in the 1840's. Have Jeremiah Sullivan married to Mary Hammil Sullivan, with children born (Florence 1845) and Patrick 1850. Jeremiah believed to have been a worker on Wabash-Erie Canal working with a large crew of Irish Immigrants. Later shows up in Pike County Indiana 1850 census. I believe a large number of Sullivan family members came over from Ireland at about the same time and therefore am looking for other Sullivan's with Indianapolis 1840's-50's time period.
Josiah Fouts is in Iowa in 1880 married to Rebecca Gray/Curtright. They have two girls Mae and Maud born in 1879 & 1880. Rebecca was daughter to Robert Gray, but enumerated as Curtright at 11 years in 1870 with stepfather Jackson Curtright.

We do not know what happened to Josiah...divorce or death? Rebecca eventually marries Jake Myers and ends up in ID & OR with Maud Fouts and daughter Grace Myers by the year 1894 so they must have married sometime between 1875 to 1878. Cannot locate Mae in ID census. Maud marries W. Babcock, living in Caldwell, ID.
A classmate of mine in elementary school (PS 85 on south Arlington) Named Ruth Jones was found dead in her apartment near downtown Indy in the early 1970's. It was later found to be a murder. Does anyone know where I could find info about this?

I checked with the television stations and they have nothing without an exact date, SSDI does not list her. Not able to travel to Indy to look in old newspapers.

Thanks,
Mike Davis

Offutt Family in 1870 Federal Census in Indianapolis

Researching the Offutt Family. In this census there are at least two Offutt Families that appear to have been counted twice. In particular I am trying to determine relationship of Thomas Offutt found in these two hits in Indianapolis to the rest of the Offutt Family.

In the 1870 Federal Census it appears that some of these individuals were enumerated twice. Once on Feb. 7, 1870 in 6th Sub Div, 7th Ward, Indianapolis, Marion County, IN household of James Offutt (Film M593; Roll 339; Pg 442) and once on August 3, 1870 in 2nd Ward, Indianapolis, Marion County, IN household of Thomas Offutt(Film M593; Roll 340; Pg 68).

Trying to determine if this is in fact the same Thomas Offutt as was located in the 1850 Census of District #1 East Part Scott County, KY.

Searching for info about the family of John Springsteen, b. NY, d. prob. Indianapolis, IN possibly 1876. (A John S. is bur. Crown Hill Nov. 21, 1876 in family plot; our family bible states John Sr d. Mar 19, 1872, Indianapolis.) His wife was Mary and 3 children are seen in the 1850 Hancock Co, IN census; a John is listed in Marion Co. in 1840 with correct ages of children, and a John listed in 1860 but with a woman named 'deWolf' in the household, and one illegible entry. I believe his children are [Thomas]Jefferson (b. 1820, Harrison, OH, m. Anna Connor), Sarah A. (b 1833, OH), Missouri E. (b. ~1834 OH, m. Wm Scotten), and Eliza/Analiza (b ~1839 PA, m. Geo. Hanna; children were Anna, b~1857, Ida b~1864, and Charles b~1869, became a judge; all lived in Fortville, Hancock Co., IN)

Would like to find obits, wills, etc., so any help with researching in these areas would be appreciated.

Pamela
timetrvlr1800@gmail.com

Wright-Genry-Whitesell Cemetery in Indianapolis moved to Crown Hill

This article was published in the Lafayette Journal and Courier today, June 12, 2008. I thought it would be good to have it posted here for information many years from now. I have no connection to either cemetery, and have no further information.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The remains of 33 Indiana pioneers have been moved from their 19th-century graves near what is now the intersection of two major highways to a historic section of Crown Hill Cemetery for reburial.

More than 100 people attended a dedication ceremony Wednesday for the remains and the gravestones that were moved from the Wright-Gentry-Whitesell Cemetery, established in 1841 on the city's far northeast side. The location is near what is now a heavily traveled intersection of Interstate 69 and I-465.

"I think it was the right thing to do. The other one was cut off and inaccessible," said JoAnn Seright of Elwood, whose great-great-great-great-grandfather, the Rev. James Wright, founded the nearby Castleton United Methodist Church in 1843 and was one of the people buried in the cemetery.

Speakers at the ceremony included other descendants, along with state, church and Crown Hill officials.

Looking for Lewis Borneman

Please Help! For 3 Years I have been searching for the birthplace and parents of Lewis Borneman. Several found records (death, Mason application and Omaha Railroad job application) that state he was born in Indiana on 11/8 in either 1871, 1872 or 1873. He was in Delaware, Ohio from early 1890’s to early 1900’s where he married Julia C Gentleman and had one son William Clifford. I have good information he was in Indianapolis from 1903 to 1907 but left in 1907 for St. Paul Minnesota. He may have had a daughter La Verna in 1903 in Indiana according to a census record. Also may have been in Catholic church as he was married and a member of St. Mary’s in Delaware, Ohio. On his death record, Julia recorded his fathers name as Fredrick, with both parents born in Germany. There is also a family story that the second n was dropped from the end of name (Bornemann)

The attached picture is the only one of many that has an imprint from Indianapolis on it (see lower section). So I now suspect this is either a picture of Lewis about 1880 or William Clifford about 1905.

Would greatly appreciate any help you can offer.

Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can provide.
Descendants of John H. Underwood and Martha Jane McCollum

SURNAMES: Underwood / McCollum / Leonard / Sutton / Gresham / Barrett
PLACE: Marion County, Indiana

I am researching the family group of John H. UNDERWOOD, and his wife Martha Jane McCOLLUM, who raised a family around Perry Twp., and Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN. I would like to hear from anyone researching anyone in this family, and especially people who might have photos of them.

HUSBAND: John H. Underwood, (1864-1920,) son of George W. Underwood and Emily Starkey.

WIFE: Martha Jane McCollum, (1865-1941,) daughter of Thomas J. McCollum, and Catherine E. Fisher.

CHILDREN:

1.	Lottie Mae Underwood, (1887-1974), married Charles H. Leonard
2.	George W. Underwood, (1889-1982), married Jesse M. Sutton
3.	Emily “Emma” Underwood, (1895-1932, ) married 1st Howard L. Barrett, married 2nd Richard Franklin Gresham.

I am especially interested in info on their daughter Emma Underwood. She first married Howard L. Barrett, and they had one child together who was also named Howard, (c. 1918-1922.) Little Howard died young, and his father Howard died bet. 1916-1920. Emma then married Richard Franklin Gresham on Mar. 22, 1920, Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN. They had one daughter together named Myrtle Jane Gresham. Emma died July 11, 1932, Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN., and Richard Gresham re-married a woman named Margie Knight. Margie Knight had two daughters before she married Richard. I’m not sure of the daughter’s names, but they might have been named Barbara and Delores. I do not know if Margie’s maiden name was Knight, or if that was her surname from a previous marriage? I’m not sure what happened to Margie Knight or her daughter’s but would like to know. Richard and Margie may have divorced. Richard Gresham married again, a woman named Ruth (?). Ruth may have worked for the phone company. Richard Gresham was a salesman for the H.J. Heinz Company. He would go to grocery stores and take orders for products to stock their shelves.

The line of descent I am researching is from Richard F. Gresham, and Emma Underwood, thru their daughter Myrtle Jane Gresham. We have no photos of Richard Gresham, or his parents Benjamin Gresham, and Emma Myrtle Denton, and are searching for surviving family members who could get us a copy of a photo of them. Note: Emma Myrtle Denton was the daughter of Isaac Newton Denton, (c. 1836-1911), a Civil War Veteran, who lived in Boyle Co., KY.

NOTE: Our genealogy is posted at the Rootsweb WorldConnect site, and Memorial Pages have been posted on some of our family at Find-A-Grave.
I would like to know where they are buried and if someone would look up Emma's obituary for me, I would be very grateful.

Seeking information about a young woman or girl by the name of Helen Wilson, who had a daughter at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Indianapolis in 1935 or1936. Baby was baptized Mary Rose at Sacred Heart Church. She was then adopted by a family from Ft. Wayne Indiana by the name of Noll. The adoption record states that the mother's mother was of Irish origin and the father of the child, although unnamed had a "German" sounding name.

No information is given about Helen Wilson's age at the time of her daughter's birth.

Her daugther is interested to know if the birth mother had other children, and other family history.

Any information would be helpful.

Phyllis

I am looking for help on possible churches existing around 1890, to find a church marriage record for John Sullivan and Mary Judge. They were married by D. O'Donahue, D.D.

John(b. approx 1858, in Ireland, son of David Sullivan and Kate Doohy(?) and Mary's(b. approx 1862, in Indiana, daughter of Ellen McBride and James Judge) children were
John Joseph Sullivan
Josephine Sullivan
Ethel Sullivan
Kathleen Sullivan

In 1890 they lived at 19 Blake in Indianapolis, Indiana, with Mary's mother Ellen Morley(
Mary's mother, Ellen's first husband, was James Judge, and after he died around 1874, she married Patrick Morley, in 1875. It appears Patrick Morley died before the 1880 census, because, Ellen, is listed as a widow in 1880 census.

I am looking for the actual birth name of Daisy M. BROWN, b.18 July 1885. Daisy is said to be a nickname and that her real name was "Phoebe". Her parents were Richard BROWN, b.1858, and Emma JONES, b. 1863, both of Pulaski County, but Daisy was supposedly born in Marion County. She had a sister, Effie Ann, b. 18 October 1883 also in Marion County. It's too bad that it is so impossible to get a birth certificate for family study through the Indiana Dept of Health!

I am searching for the parents of my great great grandmother, Nancy Ann Perry. She was born 5 May 1826 in Ohio to a father born in Pennsylvania and a mother born in Ohio. The family of John and Drusilla Perry, who moved from Anderson Township, Hamilton County, Ohio in 1830, seem to be a good prospect. Nancy was married to William A. Barnes in 6 June 1850 in Lawrence (Lanesville), Lawrence Township. The census records for 1840, however, do not have a fit for her under John Perry or his two oldest sons Thomas and William. Could she be a neice to John and Drusilla Perry? Could she just have been missed in the 1840 census, or listed with the wrong age? Anyone with information on the Nancy or the John Perry family, I would love to learn more.

In 1920 Elizabeth Webb was on the census in Indianapolis Ward 11, Marion, Indiana. She does not appear to be on the 1930 census.
Elizabeth Webb is thought to be the daughter of Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient - William Wesley Kendall of Dubois and Orange Counties, Indiana. I would like to send for her death certificate to be sure. Is there a way to find Marion County Cemetery Records via the Internet? So that I might find her death date to send for the record?
Thanks
