Looking for any info on Devaults in Indiana. Any help would be appreciated.

My husband's father was a Devault. He changed his name to brown when he was young. Will see if I can get some names for you. I believe they were from Indiana

From what I am understanding Thomas Devault's father drowned in a flood and the mother remarried and the man she married shot and killed her and one sister. I still have not run across the names. I have a newspaper clipping some where that tells me all the names. Does any of this ring a bell for you. I believe this might have happened either in Indiana or Kentucy.

I found some names. I don't know if they will do you any good. I have an Esther Devault Hodges Rowley/ That was the lady that was shot and killed. It does not say what her 1st husband's name was. Her daughter are Zelma Zane Devault killed with her mother at age 14. Other daughter Helen Reynolds Lives in Evensville. Sons-Paul, Bill and Thomas (which changed his name and is my husband's father. This happened in evenville. But the family had moved from Kentucy. Hope this helps.

Hi, I do have some family in Evansville. I haven't found all there names yet. I am still working on that. When I get them I will let you know. There can't be to many Devaults in that small town.

What I have are Esther Devault Rowley & Zelma Zane Devault. These were the two that were killed. Zelma was 14 years old and her mother was in her 40's. She had one other daughter, Helen Devault Reynolds, three sons, Paul, Thomas, & Bill. Brothers Marion, Rollie Tabor, from Kentucy. Around Madionsville. These people moved from Kentucy to Evensville Indiana where the shooting occured. Esther & Zelma are buried in Fredonia Kentucy. This is all I could find. Thomas is my husband's father. It does not mention the father's name to these children. I am assuming they all were from Kentucy at one time.

Esther also had sisters that I forgot to mention. They are, Edaline Winters, Ruthie Fletcher, Rosie Fowler, Nonia Montgomery all from Kentucy. This had to happen in the late 30's or early 40's on about August 18th-19th. in Evensville Indiana. I have a newspaper clipping of the insitent but does not give the year. The daughter I think is still living in Evansville. Her name is Helen Devault reynolds. Do not know if the last name is still the same.

Devault is my Great Grandmothers name , She married a Smith. They lived in Fort Branch , IN. Not to far from Evansville where my father was born. Her fathers name was William H. Dayvolt -which he changed from Devault , Susan Dayvolt on gravestone but on marriage lic. was Devault. Went to cemetery outside of Fort Branch. What are the names and dates of your Devaults. Lots of info about the Devaults and Dayvolts in the www.browning.evepl.lib.in.us/ Which is a Library in Indiana . Gwyn
