In locating birth records for my husband's family, some records state they were livng Rt. 1, Gary, Lake County, Indiana. This was in the 1940's. Does anyone happen to know the area encompassed by Rt. 1, Gary in that time period?

I was born and raised in what was then called the Garyton area of Portage Twp. and lived there for many yrs. I remember what is now called Central Ave. in Portage, Indian where I lived from 1920thru 1940's and it was called RR1,Gary, Indiana. This is now inclusive and all called Portage, Indiana. Hope this helps.I am a long life Portage Resident and knew the Linquists,Garrisons and most all people around ththe area. Good talking to you.
