My ancestors are also John Luther and Elizabeth Cribbs Repine, through their son Joseph Painter Repine - Homer Repine of Noble IN - Cecil Almon Repine - Helen Repine was my grandmother. Joseph Painter Repine's middle name was never lost in our family information, and since there are no other Painters in the direct line, I believe that Catherine, wife of Christopher, has some connection with the family.

Attached is the photo, but I'm sorry to say it is of Joseph and Elizabeth Wykoff - I just was recollecting the older couple's picture when I originally wrote. I was told that the house behind them was torn down to build the Kendallville airport and that the land originally belonged to John Luther Repine.

Hello. I am also a descendant of Daniel Carr II. I do believe he was the youngest son of Daniel Car I as when Daniel Carr II was married to Martha Mason, it shows that Daniel Carr I was in Fort Ann, NY as well. I am the descendant of Daniel Carr II from his son Zephaniah, to his son Jarvis, to his son Ira to Ira's 8th child Leona Pearl Carr who was my mother. It would be awesome for some of us from the Ira Carr family to see the family bible. Thank you for your post. I hope to hear from you. Sincerely, Marcus Cole, Chicago, IL.

Hello. Very nice documentation from Daniel Carr II. I am a descendant of his. From Daniel Carr II to his son Zephaniah, to his son Jarvis, to his son Ira, to Ira's 8th Child Leona Pearl Carr, to me. We believe from Ira's family that Daniel Carr II is the youngest son of Daniel Carr I, since there is some documentation showing Daniel Carr I in Fort Ann, NY where Daniel Carr II and Martha Mason were married. Ira married my grandmother Lulu Nettelman Carr in Stueben CO., IN and eventually moved to Hillsdale CO., MI. Thanks again for your fine documentation. I was hoping to find out where Daniel the I was from or who his parents were. We think they were Scot/Irish or Irish. Thanks again, Marcus Cole

Hi Janice,
I see you posted back in 2004, but here's hoping you will get this message. My name is Becky Galloway, I too am a great-granddaughter of Alta (Brooks) and William Galloway. Do you have any pictures that you are willing to share of Alta or William or anyone from that line (their parents)? I have no pictures of my family beyond grandparents and would absolutely love to put faces with names.
My lineage is as follows:
William R. and Amanda (Streeter) Galloway
William and Alta (Brooks) Galloway
Maynard W. and Leola (Miller) Galloway
William M. and Lila (Smith) Galloway
Me :)
Thanks Becky
I located a copy of her (Mary Brown)death certificate which lists her parents as James Steveson & Mary Bryn**. James Stevenson and Mary Bryant are my GrGrGr Grandparents. Throughout the research I have seen the spelling of the last name change from Steveson to Stevenson to Stephenson in no particular order from census to census.
Dave Stevenson

Something I've not been able to figure out. I have copies of 3 marriage records for Eben Collar (Colar) in Lagrange Co, IN. - one to Polly Stiner & one to Sabrina Todd. However, the third one is filled in to an ELIZABETH CHATMAN on Sept 27, 1852, but it is not signed by a Justice of the Peace. Could this be Emeline? It's in the record book but not signed. That would be about the year they married. Just wondering!

This is just FYI: I took my information from the 1850 - 1880 censuses plus marrige, birth, death & military records. I have Eben Collar as having 14 children:

UNKNOWN WIFE:
Martha, Melinda, Eliza, Elizabeth, Thomas F. All birth years are the same as you have except Thomas- He was listed as 6 yrs old in 1850 - so b.1844.

MARY "POLLY" STINER:
George Henry 1846 & James 1849
(I've always found my g.grandfather listed as George Henry.)

EMILINE STEVENSON:
Alonzo, (You don't have Pauline 1857), Mary, Phebe, Eugenia, John W., Henrietta (all with the same b. years you have.)

Eben Collar died in Fort Wayne, IN on July 8, 1881 and is buried in Lindenwood Cemetery in the "T" section. His death record said he was 59 years old. Actually, he was 69 yrs old! Over the span of 50 years he had at least 4 wives, 14 children and ended up 10 years younger! Quite a man!! :-)

I have found 3 of Ebenezer Collar's marriage records in Lagrange County, IN. He & "Polly" Mary Stiner were married Jan 27, 1846. I have concluded that he was married previously. In the 1850 census in Lagrange Co he is listed with Mary & 7 children, the older five I believe was from a previous wife. My g.grandfather George H. is listed as 3 years old, as he was born Nov. 28, 1846. He also had a brother James born in 1849. I believe that George Henry and James were the only two full siblings & their mother was Polly (Mary) Stiner.
The 1860 census has Ebenezer with Emeline. There were 5 years between James & Alonzo, whose mother was Emeine. It's been hard to follow my g.g.grandfather Eben Collar! He kept marrying younger women and he got "younger" as the years went by!! :-) I believe he had a least 4 wives! After Emeline he married Sabrina Todd Sept 30, 1872.
Yes, my g.grandfather George moved is family to Osceola, MI where he died in a lumbering accident. I have pics of his gravesite.
Thanks for your input.

I have Mary Polly as the same individual but I have them married about 1830 due to the fact that they had several children and
Henry George Collar
Birth about 30 Jan 1846 in ,,Indiana,USA
Death 27 Jun 1895 in Marion, Osceola, Michigan, USA
After my grgrandmother Melissa Stevenson died, Frank Barhitte married her niece, Mary Collar (her sister Emeline married Eben Collar). So, apparently, Henry Geo went up to Osceola County with them about 1870...
Eben's family:
Mary Polly Stinar Litchard
1813 – 1851
Martha Collar
1833 –
Melinda Collar
1835 –
Eliza Collar
1836 –
Elizabeth Collar
1838 –
Henry George Collar
1846 – 1895
Thomas F Collar
1846 –
James Collar
1849 –
Spouse & Children
Emelia (Emeline) Mary Stevenson
1831 – 1878
Alonzo Collar
1852 –
Mary Collar
1859 – 1918
Phebe Collar
1861 –
Eugenia Jennie Collar
1864 –
John W Collar
1866 –
Henryetta Collar
1869 –

Good Evening,

Thank you so very much for all of this help. I am no longer able to travel to do research. This David Wanzo was John's youngest son. He had anther daughter Eunice for whom I have no information. I know that David lived in Noble Co. for a while. He is also the one who built the log cabin that is in the 4-H section of the La Grange Co. fairgrounds.

Now, if by chance you are interested, I have the information on the Frain, Warner, A little of Horace Cooper family data. His wife's family goes back to England. I might have some of the Shoup family data also as well as some of Peter Baumgardner from Pa. from Switzerland. I will gladly share anything that you might be interested in seeing. Ester Yoder was married to Peter Baumgardner. Some of the Miller family also married into this family.

Beth

I was told that there was a John Wanzo living in a boarding house in La Grange in 1860 Census. That he was listed as a carpenter. I have search on line for this information without success. Is there anyone who could see if they could find it there in La Grange.

I am looking for information on Edmund Weston and his family. The information that we have states that he was born in either Maine or Massachusetts, he served in the revolutionary war in Massachusetts, then moved to Mercer County PA, then moved to LaGrange County IN, where presumably he died. He is a revolutionary war vet lying in an unmarked grave, and that's just unacceptable. Our local DAR chapter is trying to put up a marker for him but we need some proof of his birth, and something that actually says that he died in LaGrange County and where. All we know for sure is that his last pension check was mailed to LaGrange County 3 Mar 1837. He enlisted 6 Jan 1777, served in Captain George Smith's Company in Massachusetts and under Col Joseph Vose Regiment 6 Jan 1777 to 31 Dec 1779. Any documentation that you have would that could help confirm his birth or death would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Deb

Hi Ryan, John H Sanderson was born 18 Nov 1808, and died 31 Jan 1865. His wife was Sarah Anderson born 6 Nov 1810 and died 27 Mar 1887. They are buried in the Ontario Cemetery in LaGrange County Indiana. I visit this cemetery often. If you go to the www.findagrave.com site, they are listed as memorial #82192877 which includes a photograph of the grave marker. There are several other Sandersons buried there as well. There are many Sandersons living here currently. One of them has a well drilling business, very nice people. I hope this helps you.
Hello, you might look at Sheldon and Rachel (Davenport) Williams. They married in Ontario Co., NY, in 1831 and migrated first to MI, then La Grange IN, then to Fawn River, MI, where they resided until their deaths. William is likely one of their sons and you can find his family tree online. Rachel is the sister of John Davenport, daughter of Humphrey and elizabeth Lucretia Davenport who lived in Ontario Co., NY until about 1833, then migrated with their sons, John, Cornelius, and Abram to Washtenaw and Lenawee Counties, MI. Hope this helps!

Most of the cemeteries in LaGrange County, other than Greenwood, are taken care of by the Township Trustee’s – some of
the old records of the older burial lots have been lost over the years but many times the Trustee can help with these – You can find the Township Trustee’s
on the LaGrange County Web site – and if I’m not mistaken they have a list of all veterans’ buried in all the cemeteries –

Hope this helps some what

Jane
Lagrange County Cemeteries

Anyone know what the best way to find burial / plot locations within Lagrange County cemeteries would be? Noble County has an amazing genealogical cemetery website, but I haven't had any luck finding something similar within Lagrange County (except for Greenwood) - and I do not live in Lagrange County. I don't see phone numbers for cemeteries and I have called local funeral homes, but have not gotten anyone to answer the phone.

Thanks !!

Good Evening,

Going from memory, I believe tat your line descends down from Andrew, son of John "George" Frain - Frane - Frehn and Annie Berkebile - ile etc. Am now working on he family of John "George" Frain - De Frehn - Du Frehn. I have not studied all of gthe data that I have found but if you will search in Mongomery Co., Pa. in the New Hanover and Falkner Swamp Lutheran Churches, you will find a great deal. It appears that John George De Frehn's grandfather or perhaps it was his father that came from Germany. Would be interested in seeing what you see in the information.

Beth abcfhist@hotmail.com

I'm seeking any relevant data for the following ancestors...Surname THOMS...(aka TOMS, TOMES, THOMAS). My 2g-gf CORNELIUS b @ 1850 in Stark Co, Ohio. Relocated to LaGrange, Indiana prior to 1880 where he remained until his death in 1916. He and first wife SARAH E. (maiden unknown) b @ 1855, appear in the 1880 Fed Census of Milford, LaGrange Co. with two children, DANIEL S. b @ 1876 and VALANTA (aka VALANDA, VIOLA) MAY NOTESTINE b @ 1879. What happened to his first wife? Did she die, or was there a divorce? At any rate, Corny married a second time in 1882 to my 2g-gm SARAH JANE HIGHLAND b. @1853. They then had three daughters...D1, DELLA HANSELMAN b @1883, D2, my g-gm ETTA FRANCES WHETZEL b 1886, and D3, CARRIE b @1890. Etta married my g-gf ANDREW ERNEST WHETZEL of Noble Co. in 1907. Thank you.
