I would like to learn more about the Selby family, because they have collateral links to the Kenyon family. I suspect there is an interesting story here, but one that may never be fully uncovered. Nevertheless, I am hoping to piece some of it together and hope someone can help me with part of it.
Here is how I became interested in the Selby family:
1. 1850 Census West Greenfield, LaGrange, Indiana
Samuel Parham, born 1819, England
wife Nancy Parham, born 1822, Ohio
children: George W., Julia M., Jane, and William all born in Indiana between 1842-1847
Pamela Kenyon, born 1823, New York
Who is the Pamela Kenyon? Could she be a daughter of Barnabas Kenyon and Betsy Kenyon, who both died by 1844 in LaGrange, Indiana? They had eight children, including three sons and five daughters, all born in Jefferson County, New York. Could Pamela be one of the daughters?
2. Samuel Parham married Nancy S. Selby, 4 Apr 1841, LaGrange, Indiana, from Indiana Marriages.
3. Samuel Parham is the brother of Thomas Parham. Both are sons of James Parham and Ann Bristol, who immigrated to America from England and settled in Jefferson County, New York. Thomas Parham, born 1810 England, married Susanna Kenyon, born 1811 Jefferson County, New York, daughter of Barnabas Kenyon and Betsy Parkhurst. Thomas Parham and Susanna (Kenyon) Parham, both died and are buried in LaGrange, Indiana.
This provides connection of Barnabas Kenyon to Samuel Parham, through his son-in-law Thomas Parham. This might explain why Pamela Kenyon was living with them. She would have been about 21 years old when both of her parents died. Unmarried, it would makes sense for family to take her in.
4. 1850 Census West Greenfield, LaGrange, Indiana
Ralph Selby, born 1813, Ohio
wife Prather, born 1820, Ohio
children: Olive, Prosatha A., Byron B., Ethwell D., all born in Indiana between 1841-1849
Sarah F. Kenyon, born 1830, New York
Who is Sarah F. Kenyon? Could she be another daughter of Barnabas Kenyon and Betsy? She would have been 14 years old at the time of both parents death, if this birth year is correct. Ralph Selby is a neighbor of Samuel Parham and wife Nancy (Selby) Parham. It seems very likely that Nancy Selby is related to Ralph Selby, perhaps even brother and sister.
Here is where I can use some help. I would like to learn more about the Selby family. Also if anyone has any additional information linking these families together.
Thank you.
