I believe I might be a descendant of this same line of McCloughans. I think John McCloughan (1826 or 1829-1883)was another one of Jacob's children. He is my 4th great grandfather. My grandfather was Robert Lloyd McCloughan 1936-1975. His father was Lloyd Langham McCloughan (1916-1969). His father was Lloyd Carlton McCloughan 1894-1959. His father was Jacob Carlton McCloughan 1862-1929. His father was John McCloughan and I am fairly certain that Joseph H McCloughan who married Elizabeth McBride is the father of John McCloughan.

I would suggest you check with the Kosciusko County Historical society to see if they could help you. They have been a big help to me over the years.

Does anyone know if the burial records for Hepton Union Cemetery have been transcribed? I am looking for David YOUNG, died 1892. He doesn't have a tombstone. Do any church or burial records survive? I tried calling the church, but the number's been disconnected. Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

I found an obit for an Etta M. Nelson and wanted to send it to a family tree. I was unable to find one doing a simple search so I created a fake tree hoping that I would get a hint from Ancestry.com, but I still have not found a family tree for the Obit. I am posting a query with the information I have in hopes that someone will recognize the people.

Thank You.
===================
Obituary in 1873 newspaper:

(Henrietta) Etta M.

Tricia,

I have not forgotten about helping you! I have been doing a little digging on the internet, and some more at the Warsaw Library, and then more at our local historical society... they have a nice collection of records, too.

I just found your family tree online at Ancestry. Very Nice.

Given the marriage records and ages of Mary Silver, I doubt she was James Clarence's mother. My guess is that Mary Silver is a second wife.

James Hall marrying Mary Silvers on 4-28-1859
(J.G.Watts - Justice of the Peace)

Knowing (assuming) that James Clarance was born in 1855, I looked for obvious marriage records for his parents in the preceeding years... not much on record before the WPA project of course, but some stuff. I could not find anything. I searched death records and cemetery listings to find a female Hall that passed away between 1855 and 1859... nothing really fit.

Another option - Since James Clarance (JC) is not in the James Hall/Mary Silver household in the 1860 census COULD MEAN... his mother left and remarried and took JC with her... and your JC may have been recorded with a different last name... maybe for years. I like to think outside the box some to give me more ideas where to look for clues!

Anxious to hear from you!
--Angel
According to an obituary a Mrs. James Kruse from Milford was at the funeral of her husband's brother. This Kruse-Crewes is baffling.
I may have already sent you this message, but in case I sent it to someone else I'm sending it again.
I have been searching for a James Kruse. I found a James Crewes that has some matches with James Kruse. James Crewes is buried in Milford cemetery. His wife, Louise Crewes, is buried there also. According to the "findagrave"records on the internet Louise Crewes died in 1935. I'm really hoping that is a transcription error. According to an obituary of a possible brother of James, a relative who attended the funeral was "Mrs. James Kruse". The funeral for the brother was in 1936. Either James Crewes divorced Louise and then remarried at age 70, or there is a possible transcription error for her death.

Arlene

Hello, and thank you so much for your assistance!

John L Hall was my father's father and I have all info on him. But it's his father, James Clarence Hall, who is the mystery. Agnes, James' wife, had the maiden name of Reese, which I have seen spelled both Reese and Reece. After Agnes died when the children were small, my grandpa went to live with his uncle and aunt Charles B & Amanda Brady Hall. The other 3 children lived with Agnes's father, John Reese. Here's the info I have:

James Clarence Hall
b: 1855 in Warsaw, Kosciusko, Indiana
(this info gleaned from John L Hall's death certif)
married to:

Agnes Reese
b: 1867 in Illinois
d: 1895 in Pratt Co, KS
(according to her gravestone, she was buried with infant)

James Clarence Hall's brother:
Charles B Hall
b: 23 Feb 1860 in Indiana
d: 2 Mar 1924 in Wichita, Sedgwick, KS
married to Amanda J Brady

Children of James C Hall & Amanda Reese:

Minnie E Hall
b: Feb 1884 in Illinois
married James W Baumgartner and lived in Pratt Co KS
no death date

Elmer B Hall
b:abt 1886 in Kansas
d: 14 Mar 1922 in Wellington, Sumner, KS
married to Lura M (no maiden name)

John L Hall (my grandpa)
b: 2 Mar 1888 in Pratt Co, KS
d:26 Nov 1983 in Wichita, Sedgwick, KS
1st wife: Anna Verna Pantle
2nd wife: Pearl Daisy Hummel

Clarence Leonard Hall
b: 25 Jan 1890 in Pratt County, KS
d: Jan 1963 in Tyrone, Texas, OK
married to Grace Viola Grossman

Thank you for your help!
Tricia

Hi Angel,

Wow, thanks so much for your offer! This part of our family is a huge mystery. My grandfather was John Logan Hall, and his mother (Agnes Reese Hall) passed away when he was a child and he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Charles B & Amanda Brady Hall. I'm assuming Charles must be James Clarence's brother who was born in Indiana 23 Feb 1860. I hope that helps! There always seemed to be secrets about the family. I remember hearing that someone died of "melencholia", and I now wonder if maybe it was James Clarence... suicide or maybe "died of a broken heart"? I'm just so curious to trace him, but haven't been able to find anything concrete on Ancestry.com.
Thank you, thank you!
Tricia

Hi Rebecca,

I can't wait to visit Brownsville and the museum and cemetery there.

Here is a portrait of Rachel Nye. It must have been taken between when Washington became a state in late 1889 and 1893. The inscription on the back reads: "Rachel Nye Blain". Photographer's stamp reads "H.W. Green, Spangle -- Wash".

Rachel married Henry A. Hulbert a short time later. He died in Nov of 1894. In 1900 US Census, Rachel was listed as "servant" in the Charles D. Lack household in Rosalia, Whitman County, WA (about 10 miles south of Spangle, Spokane County, WA). She is buried in the Spangle Cemetery, listed on Henry's headstone as his second wife. I have to poke around a bit to find a pic of their headstone.

Dave in Spokane

There is another distant Blain cousin who lives near Spokane. I have his name in my records but can't put my hands on it right now. Rachael Nye Blain moved to se Washington to live with her children. My great grandfather John Roan Blain was William's brother. Email me at phill.gibbs@comcast.net and I will send you the photo of Rachael and other info I have on the Blains.

Regards,

Phil Gibbs

Hi,
It looks like we're cousins.
James Blaine and Mary Barr Blaine are my 4th great grandparents.

I'll need to check Kirk cematary next time I visit Brownsville, Or. for William Barr Blaine.
There's a great museum in Brownsville that has a lot of Blain history.
I have photos from the Brownsville Pioneer Cemetary. John W. Blain, Pauline Blain (my great grandparents), Golda Blain & George Byron Blain and Everett Blain are all buried there.
I'll check with my Dad about some photos for you.
Here's a photo of Wilson Barr Blain which I found at the museum.
I also found a newspaper article there of a grizzly bear attack which killed a great grandfather of mine-Benjamin H. Baird.
Can you send me a pic of Rachel Nye? She is my 3rd great grandmother.
Thanks,
Rebecca

I'm looking for the family of my great-grandfather. He's listed on his son's death certificate as James Clarence Hall, born in Warsaw, Kosciusko, Indiana. He was married to Agnes Reese Hall, who gave birth to my grandfather, John Logan Hall, in Pratt Co. Kansas in 1888. Their first child was born in Pratt Co in 1884. I can't find a single shred of evidence that a James Clarence Hall existed, other than my grandfather's death certificate. So, I'm hoping someone has info out there!

Hi,

I'm trying to find some information about the Carmain family that lived in Kosciusko in the 1850s. My relative is John Carmain (b. 1846). I'm pretty sure his mothers name was Mary, and he had a brother named Alfred, but I don't have a lot more information. I'd really like to find out about his parents. It also seems like the family moved around quite a bit.

Can anyone help? Thanks!

Griffith and Ayle Families of Kosciusko Co, IN, OH, VA, PA

Hello,

I'm looking for additional information about the Griffith and Ayle families of 4) Kosciusko Co, IN 3) Jefferson Twp, Madison Co, OH also 2) Martinsville, Henry Co. VA and 1) PA.

From an article in the History of Jefferson Twp on the Ayle family. It says - 'We find the Ayle family as being early settlers of Jefferson Twp, and mention the name of John Ayle, whose father, Valentine Ayle, was a native of Germany, a patriot of the Revolution, and was captured on the ocean. He subsequently settled in Virginia, but finally died at Georgesville, Ohio. John was a native of Martinsville, Va. and reached Jefferson Twp about 1828. He ever after remained in the township until his death, August 17, 1861. He was twice married. By the first union, four children were born. His second wife was Elizabeth, widow of James Cannedy. Her maiden name was Griffith. She was a native of Pennsylvania, and died in Madison Co. She and John Ayle had a family of eight children'.

Their daughter Margaret Ayle married John Griffith (born in PA and who was married previously) about 1835 and their family moved to Kosciusko Co, IN around 1842. Also, are Elizabeth Griffith and John Griffith related? If so, how (aunt and Nephew?) and from where in PA? Thank you for any assistance.

Kind regards,
Ken Kelly kenkelly_98pa@live.com
