Doing some research in Jennings Co this week and came across the will record of James Green, recorded May 8, 1852, in Spencer (twp?). The executor of the will was his father, Aaron Green. Listed in the will are his wife, Elizabeth B., and his son, Chapen. (will bk 1, pp 141-3). Hope this helps.

I recently came upon some very old things from my grandmother Faye Moore Smith. It was a hand written note from her mother Martha Jane Moore Smith (b 12/11/1854 d. 7/22/1934), no dates, the following:
" My husband was Rev W. W. Smith a Baptist minister. To the best of my knowledge his father was William Smith who came to this country from Scotland when a very young man and settled in Jennings Co., in or near one of the Vernons. He was married to a widow Green, who had a son Chapin Foster Green. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Tull, to this union were born 2 sons, William Wallace Smith, my husband, and a younger brother James I never knew. The mother of these three boys died when my husband was 6 or 7 years old.
Chapin Foster Green married to a Miss White, I think her name was Ora of Kentucky. They both died leaving 3 children Wallace X Percy, Chaapin Foster and Gertrude who lives in Indianapolis and Chapin Foster lives in Detroit. Wallace X Percy died several yeas ago. Their father's ancestry dates back to the Buchanans' about whom so much has been said regarding (concerning) their great wealth. My husband died the last day of 1905. He was born in North Vernon July 233, 1855."

The 1860 census shows Elizabeth Smith age 25 head of houshold with 4 children, Chapin, William, James and Jane, being about 1 yr. No husband listed property value at $200. I have also found a

I have been struggling for information for sometime on this end of my reseach. Anything you may have and willing to share would be greatly appreciated.

To : A. Price,
Hello and thanks for contacting me concerning your connection to the "Green's" in Jennings County, Indiana.
I do have a Chapin Green mentioned in my Green family history, whom I believe was the son of James Green.
James Green was a son of my gr gr gr grandfather -Aaron Green, who came to Jennings County, IN around 1834.
I do not have much on Chapin Green but I will do some digging to see just what I do have and where I got the information. This Green Family is really complicated and I will need to contact you directly, to explain.
I will be in touch soon.
Best Regards,
Judy Mills Boie - Minnesota

Judy, it seems we share the same gr gr gr grandfather -Aaron Green. I'm descended from his son John Morgan Green who married Sarah Wilkins, the daughter of Rachel Wilkins (the one who wrote those letters to the Sprouts in the 1860's). So yes, this is ringing bells for me! I'd like to learn more from you...and I'd be glad to fill you in on what I know.

Judy,

I saw your information about the Jennings County Greens. My 3rd great grandfather, Nathan Green came to Jennings County from NC. He married Nancy Carroll in 1834 in Jennings Co. There could be some connections.

Hi Tim,
Sorry to say I have never found any connection between my Aaron Green family in Jennings Co., IN and your Nathan Green
and Nancy Carroll line. In fact - I first started researching your Nathan Green - in the hopes he was my Green line but did not get anywhere with that research.

Sorry I can't help.
Judy

Tim,

Do you have anymore information on them? Nathan is in my tree also, but all traces seem to stop here for me.
