SURNAMES CONNECTION UNDERWOOD, GEORGE, EDWARDS

I need help. Our NC UNDERWOOD line with a paper trail going back to 1760 in GUILFORD county submitted a DNA sample to help us know which Underwood line our Abel Underwood descended and help us id either Maryland or Delaware as to where they lived before North Carolina.

To our surprise, we match ZERO steps at 67 markers with a GEORGE family from Jackson Indiana AND one step deviation match from an EDWARDS family surprisingly also from Jackson IN.

All three lines are stumped as to how any of them connect. I wonder if anyone working on genealogy work in Jackson IN knows how the UNDERWOOD and GEORGE and EDWARD families connect?

I would be grateful to hear about any record or story to help me solve this mystery.

Do you have information in your Wahmhof database of a Widow Anna Gedrut WAMHOF from Wallendorfer who married Herman Büning 6 Oct 1677. I obtained this information from records of St. Walburgis Ev Kirche in Venne through Udo Thoerner from Venne several years ago. The Büning line is my husband's direct ancestral line but we do not know Herman's father; his mother may be Anna Niemann. Thank you for any information you may have.
Did you see the ordering information after your post on this board for Udo Thoerner's book Venne in America?

I am searching for lineage of David Veloris Sutherland. I found him in 1850 living with an Elizabeth Harrison in Carr Township, Jackson Township, Indiana. In other censuses, he lists his birth place as Canada. On the 1850 census, also, there was a Polly Wray living with Elizabeth Harrison. One of his sons married a Wray descendent. There was also another Sutherland family listed a few households before Harrison. Could that be a connection?

My grandfather went by two names also; Robert Lawrence Lutes and Robert Lawrence Hartman. Hartman is the name he used when he married my grandmother Gloria. Any information would be helpful. It is thought that Robert had 2 siblings (Viola and Richard), but we are not sure if they share the same parents.

David Mearden Crum , is my next venture ? Have seen him listed as Merideth and Sarah headed to Missouri shortly after 1850 ? Jonathan has passed away in 1849 at 52yrs old ? Am interested in 2 daughters under 10 and 2 sons under 10 plus 2 daughters under 5 , listed in the 1830 census , as well as their parent , the baby sitters ? I think David Mearden is my Great Great Grandad ? Sarah E. Davis Crum were living in Ravanna , Missouri , Mercer County ? David Mearden Crum was B:1832 Jackson County Indiana , Marrys Elizabeth Jane Keener :1855 in Mercer County Missouri , in 1870 at 38 home was Udell , Iowa , Appanoose County :1880 he was living at 48 in Cottonwood , Missouri , Mercer County ? After 1900 at 68yrs dies in Platte City , Missouri ? Have found refference to 5 and or 6 different childeren and two wives , but some names are same and different dates , so may be some guessing ? May not be Merida , gone hunting , good luck !

You are correct they are not the same person. In addition to what you have found, I also found a death record for Polly's daughter, Ethaline, who died in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1933. That record did indicate that Polly's name was Mary.

When I research Mathias Payne, I see that he returned to New York state by 1873. He is shown with another wife in the 1880 census.

Thanks. I'm still trying to identify this Polly Miller's maiden name (the woman who married Mathias Payne). She is not the Polly who married Martin Miller. That Polly (Mary) is listed as living with Martin Miller in Iowa in 1860. That Polly (maiden name Cummins)died June 6, 1873 and is buried in the Miller Cemetery, Burrell Township, Decatur County, Iowa.

I am hoping you are still interested in this. My ancestor is Mathias Payne. Contact me if so. I am beginning to believe the Polly Miller with her 4 children in the household of Mathias Payne in 1860 Jackson Co, IN, is not the same as the Polly Cummins who married Martin Miller. That Mary is with Martin Miller in Decatur county, IA in 1860. Mathias later married Polly Miller (in 1865), and she is with him in 1870 Brownstown, Jackson, IN. I traced her 2 daughters, but they reveal nothing of their mother so far. The 2 sons I haven't located yet. I think people have mixed the two up. The Polly (Mary) who married Martin in 1842 had children from 1844-1860. She was born in KY. The Polly Miller with Mathias had children from 1851-1858 and was born in Indiana. Also, Find a Grave lists Polly buried in Cummins Cemetery, Salt Creek Twp. I have the listing for that cemetery, and did not find her there. The Mary, wife of Martin is buried in Miller Cem, Decatur Co, IA, died 6 Jun 1873. They are about the same age, which doesn't help. If anyone has figured this out, I would appreciate a note. Thanks, Fran

I am a desendant of Katherine McConnell, daughter of Samuel W. and Sarah (Bess) McConnell. She married my Great Grandfather Frank Henry Klakamp.I can give you information on this line if anyone wants it. I will tell you that it was believed that a neighbor lady poisoned Katherine (Kate) as she was known. It was not to long after her death that Frank married the neighbor lady. Frank and Kate's daughter Sadie was so upset over the loss of her mother, she took her own life. Oh, we have a very interesting family. One of my cousins at one time owned the Reno Gangs property. The Renos were very dangerest folk back in the 1860-1870. Antway, that is another story. If interested, e-mail me at davidklakamp@yahoo.com

Many of us are acutely aware of the importance of Heighton Hill Cemetery in Carr Township and the history of family members that are buried there. I have visited that cemetery many times in the past twenty years and am saddened by the condition of the stones and markers. If restoration attempts are not made soon all will be lost. Needless to say the county township officer does not have the resources to put things right. I suggest we all try to get together to clean, reset and restore the stones. Think of it as a hugh family reunion at "The Hill"---- Is anyone interested?!!

I'm wondering if he divorced his wife Mary late in life? My records indicate 6 children and her name was Mary Ann Hershey (appearing as Hersha (sp) in at least 1 record. Appreciate any input.

For the minute details on the Boas family, refer to that booklet if it can be found. What follows here is only a bare outline of the Boas genealogy from Henry I to Judith Boas who married into our Morrison family. ? W. C. Morrison 5th, 5/30/90.

HENRY BOAS I: Born October 30, 1760, in Hanover, Germany, emigrated with his parents to America when about 15 years old. They settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. At the age of 16, he enlisted in the Revolutionary War as a private for six months. He was with General George Washington on that famous Christmas night when they crossed the icy Delaware River to surprise the Hessian soldiers at Trenton, and participated in other battles. He was discharged New Year's Day, 1777, after having suffered severely frostbitten feet, the effects of which left him crippled for life. After the war, he lived for 18 years in Baltimore County, Maryland, where he married Dorothy Baumgartner, who was born in Maryland in 1756. Moved to Cynthiana, Harrison County, Kentucky in 1791. Then moved with Dorothy to Brownstown, Indiana, at the age of 56, where he lived until he bought the old family homestead near Vallonia in 1822. Died March 4, 1838 at Medora, Indiana, and he is buried in the Brown graveyard, Carr Township. His wife died one year later, 1839.

HENRY BOAS II: Oldest of seven children of Henry I and Dorothy, born 1783 in Baltimore County, Maryland, died October 10, 1839, buried in Vallonia Cemetery. Married Judith Adkins, Apr. 23, 1806, in Harrison County, Kentucky, b. 1786, died Feb. 2, 1864. Both are buried in Vallonia, Indiana, cemetery. Henry II appears juxtopposed to Henry I in the federal census in Jackson County, Indiana for 1820.

GEORGE BOAS: Third son of Henry I, probably born in Harrison County, Kentucky. Married Mary Cavender, probably in Harrison County, Kentucky. The 1820 federal census places him and his family in Jackson County, Indiana, engaged in agriculture. Does not appear in later census returns for Jackson County. Dates of birth and death and burial places of both are unknown.

JUDITH BOAS: Daughter of either Henry II or George, above. The author of the aforementioned Boas history has concluded that Judith's father was Henry II (see pages 17 and 35 of the Boas book). However, Judith's death certificate, based on information provided by her son, J. P. Morrison, states that her father was George. (The certificate also states that George was born in Pennsylvania - which we know is wrong - thereby casting some doubt on the accuracy of the death certificate.) A document called "Record of the Prince-Boas Families" (following in said book) further supports the position that George was her father.

Judith was born July 31, 1826, near Vallonia - probably at home on the family farm. Married William C. Morrison II of Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 3, 1843, at Salem, Indiana and lived around Brownstown before moving to Marengo, Iowa prior to 1850. William died in Norfolk, Nebraska in 1897. After William died, Judith moved to Los Angeles where her sons went into the grocery business, and about 1901 moved with her children again to Canon City, Fremont County, Colorado where she lived for two years before her death. Her address was 923 Whipple, where her daughters Della and Clemmie lived 1908 City Directory). There she died on June 9, 1902, at age 75, of bronchial tuberculosis. She was buried June 11, 1902 in Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City.

Notes on names: The surname "Boas" was "Boaz" on the 1840 census. Judith is listed as "Judy" on the 1840 rolls.

The old homestead: The Boas farm a mile southeast of Vallonia, Jackson County, Indiana was purchased in 1822 and remained in the family until 1918.

3rd cousin and source of some information: George Vance Boas, who in 1990 was located and contacted at "George's of Seymour" tire store at 301 East 2nd Street, Seymour, Indiana 47274. He died of cancer of the pancreas and liver on August 13, 1993.

William C. Morrison 5th

I would deeply appreciate it if someone could look up the obit for my great-uncle, Leo T. Davis. He died 24 Sep 1962. He lived in Brownstown many years, and is buried there, but I don't know what cemetery. I asked his son, but he couldn't remember the name of the cemetery.

Thanks in advance!

Lillie Lutes was a step daughter of a great aunt.

I assume the Jackson Co Genealogical Society would appreciate the program. I have their email and postal address if you want them.

My f-i-l graduated from Houston, Salt Crk Twp, about 1918-1920 and we have that graduation picture, which can be found at the link, which I copied and pasted, below, under Clyde Bickley in the Bickley Family Tree:

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/13043401/person/883484585/pho...

Thank you for your Help but I am not sure that this is My Charles. Unless he had two wives. His wife in 1930 if he is still alive should have been Jessie Agnes Mallow. She stated that she was married to him when she remarried in 1938. It is always possible tho that she never married him and just told others she was married to him.

Thanks again,
I appreciate it.
Sue

I have checked the LDS Pilot site and browsed thru the 1930 census on Heritage quest, but cant seem to locate this couple.

Charles Arthur Morgan b 1886
Jessie Agnes Mallow Morgan b 1888 Indiana
Elizabeth J. Morgan b 1927.

Charles died sometime between the year of 1927 and 1938 when Jessie morgan remarried to Grover Howard Smith in Jackson co. IN. He stated he was living in Ewing Jackson co. In in 1938 but there is no Ewing Indiana listed on the index for Jackson co. both Jessie and Howard were born in Johnson co. IN. Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks
Sue
