Proof that Obediah T. Barker who married Sarah Cochran was the son of Thomas Barker and Martha Truax?

Hi,

I'm looking for any solid evidence that Obediah Barker who married Sarah Cochrane in Greene County, Indiana in 1834 was the son of Thomas Barker and Martha Truax.

I've searched the web and found many family trees listed that Obediah T. Barker who was born in 1792/3 and died 1849 in New Orleans, LA who was the son of Thomas Barker and Martha Traux and that he married Sarah Cochran and had children: John, Eliza, Elizabeth, Nancy and Tilman.

However, I through my research I think that the Obediah who married Sarah Cochran was not the Obediah who's parents were Thomas Barker and Martha Truax.

Reasons being in 1850 census record for Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana there is an Obediah Barker born about 1793 in Kentucky married to a Mary. They have children of their own. The names and dates correspond with earilier census records (1830 & 1840).

There are two Obediah Barkers living in Greene County, Indiana in 1840. One Obediah Barker is between the ages of 40 and 50. Making him born around 1790 and 1800.

The other Obediah Barker is between the ages of 20 and 30, with 1 female between the ages of 20 and 30. With 1 son under 5 and 2 girls under 5.

In the 1850 census we find a Sarah Barker age 34. (Would have been 24 in 1840) with 5 children. 1 son named John aged 14 (would have been 4 years old in 1840) and one daughter named Eliza age 12 (would have been 2 in 1840) which makes it more likely that this family fit in with the Obediah in 1840 who was between 20 and 30.

So once again, is there any solid proof that Obediah Barker who married Sarah Cochran was the son of Thomas Barker and Martha Truax and not a grandson or some other relation?

Also does anyone know if Thomas and Martha might have had a son named John Barker?

Anyone know where the name "Tilman" comes from?
I am looking for any photos of Rev. Bruce Hazel. He was circuit minister for Solsberry, Hobbieville, Coleen, Ashcraft, and Mineral Churches. I hope someone has photo of him, maybe from wedding, church picnic, baptism, funeral, or some other event. Maybe someone has picture of him in a group picture, I am not picky. Rev Bruce Hazel was my grandfather and I have no pictures of him. He was circuit preacher from about 1925 to 1946 for Greene County. He lived in Bloomington Indiana. He also worked in the Limestone business. Please check your photos, and asked around your families from any pictures. Thanks, Madeline

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, July 26, 1923, Volume XLVII, Number 37, Page 5, Column 3, “DEATH’S HARVEST. DENNY.” [Transcribed 19 April 2001 from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.]

Mr. James J. DENNY was born January 2, 1841, in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and departed from this life, July 8, 1923, at the age of eighty-two years, six months and six days.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George DENNY, and was the oldest of the family of eight children, having four brothers and three sisters, four of whom have preceded him in death. These were Eliza Jane RAMSEY, Martha Ellen SHARPLES, William DENNY and Calvin DENNY. The three who survive are, Mrs. John PAGE and Messrs. Lemon and Harve DENNY.

When the children were small the family moved from Pennsylvania to Southern Indiana. Mr. DENNY was married September 12, 1861, to Miss Martha LANGTON, who was taken Home to be with the Lord, January 22, 1916. To them were born two children, Mr. Robert DENNY and Mrs. Minnie BLACKMORE, both of whom are living.

During the Civil War he served his country as a private in CO H 38TH REGIMENT INDIANA INFANTRY.

He united with the united Presbyterian church in early life, and was holding his membership in that church at the time of his death. He was reverent in his observance of the Sabbath and was faithful in his attendance at the church as long as health permitted.

Besides those mentioned above, he is survived by five grandchildren and one great grandchild, and many relatives and friends, of both young and old. Earth has lost and Heaven has gained. “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.”
—

We desire to extend our sincere thanks to our many friends, neighbors and relatives for their kindness and sympathy shown us during the illness and death of our father and grandfather, James J. DENNY.

Robert DENNEY and Family
CHARLES BLACKMORE and family.

A.C. Flaningan aka Arison Crecelius Flaningam / Flannigan

Looking for information on Arison Crecelius Flaningam/Flaningam who was living in Bloomfield, Greene County, in the 1870 and 1880 censuses with his wife and children.

He was born in Harrison County in 1828 and is believed to be the son of Arison Flaningam born in New Jersey and Mary Polly Zubrotin Crecelius who died in Jan 1828 in Harrison County. This Arison would also be half-brother of Jesse Gaines Crecelius of Mississippi, son of Mary and an unknown father.

Father Arison Sr. remarried Letitia Sinclair in Aug 1828 in Harrison County.

There is a land purchase on record for an Arison Crecelius Flaningam who purchased 40 acres in 1844 near the White River in Greene County. It is likely the purchase was made by Arison Sr. since Arison Jr was barely 15 in 1844 at the time of purchase, and he followed this family to Burleson County Texas in 1860. But, I have come across conflicting information that claims Arison Sr.'s middle name was John in a book called "The Descendants of Jesse Gaines Crecelius 1815-1900". This middle name has not been proven.

It appears that Arison Jr. left Texas and came back to Indiana where he stayed and raised his family and died in 1894.

Any information on this family, including obits, would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I'm looking into my family history. Most of my family lived in Sullivan and Greene Counties. My grandfaters name was Burl Parks. His father was Silas Parks and his mother was Rosa Belle Chambers. Silas's father was Jonas Parks and his mother was Georgia Ann (?). Rosa's parents were William Greene Chambers and Nancy (?). My grandfather was born in Daviess county on July 6, 1906. My grandmother's name was Edith Faye Kramer. Her parents were Anna Nancy Hale and Carl Clifford Kramer. Carl's parents were Thomas Kramer and Hannah (?). Anna's parents were Robert R. Hale and Naomi Mattox, they were married on March 7, 1880 in Sullivan. Robert's parents were Noah Hale and Lucinda Bedwell. Naomi's parents were John Wesley Mattox and Nancy Wallace. They were born about 1835 and 1839 respectively. My grandmother and grandfather lived in Linton for a long time and that is where my father was born. My grandfather died in Linton on Sept 1, 1966 and is buried in Muncie where I now live. If anyone can give me more information about these family lines I'd be greatful. I do have some birth dates if they are needed.

Hunter Bros. Mill Explosion

The following is a newspaper article regarding the Hunter Bros. Mill Explosion of 1877, Greene County, Indiana. All that I found before was a brief mention in Goodspeeds 1884 History of Greene & Sullivan Counties on page 303.
My aunt Mable Johnson happened to get this copy. It is very sad, and it gives a lot of personal details that wouldn't be shared in newspapers today.
I am still interested in a photocopy of the original if possible.
Benita Steyer

The Bloomfield Weekly Democrat 1877
Harvest of Death
Terrible Boiler Explosion!
Greene County’s Horror!!
Fearful Loss of Life
Particulars, Incidents, & C., & C.
Never before has it been our duty as a newspaper reporter to chronicle a more sudden, brief, and terrible disaster, in which the elements of horror, pain and suffering were more closely interwoven, than in describing the awful death that befell almost a score of our fellow citizens on last Friday morning. While the storm clouds of Heaven were marshalling their forces for a terrific war of the elements, and a deep unnatural gloom was settling down upon the earth like a funeral pall, the boiler in the mill of HunterBros. Situated about nine miles northeast of this place, exploded, and carrying, in all its terrible force, death and destruction to many of our fellowmen.
During the past week some new grinding machinery had been placed in the mill, which was formerly a saw mill and a number of the neighbors gathered there on Friday morning to see the machinery work. The day was cold, disagreeable and rainy, and those who were present naturally gathered about the engine and boiler to warm, when without a moments warning the boiler exploded, wrecking the building completely and killing twelve person, and wounding eight. The machinery was thrown in every direction and not a particle of the mill left standing. The cause of the awful accident was beyond question, a dry boiler, and someone one doubt connected with the mill discovering this, commenced pumping water into the empty boiler with the above fatal result. The following is complete list of those who were killed: Abner Vandeventer, aged 60 years cut in two; John Speltz, aged 75 years gash in the forehead; John Wilkie, aged 30 years crushed with a mill stone; James Hunter, aged 34 years cut in abdomen; Irwin B. Rea, aged 20, portion of the head severed from the body; John Hunter aged 20 years head blown away; Wash Bender, aged 13 years, leg blown off, John Hamilton, aged 15 years, head blown entirely away; Ed Hunter, aged 7 years, and Howard Hunter, aged 5 years, portions of their heads severed from their bodies; Owen Sarver, aged 14 years, head blown off; Jacob Brubaker, aged 14 terribly mutilated, died the next day. The wounded are Walter Hunter, aged 7 years right arm fractured and body badly scalded; John Bender, aged 11 years not seriously injured; Wm. Bland, aged 20 years, leg injured; Henry Bland scalded, Ahart Brubaker, leg scalded. Those who are wounded will probably recover, although some are seriously injured and may yet die.
This is beyond question the most horrible and fatal accident that ever occurred in Greene County, and has desolated many homes, and caused mourning in many hearts. Four of those who were killed were heads of families; the rest young men and boys.
No one in or about the mill escaped death or being wounded. A man, who was unloading corn at the time, was killed and his wagon torn to pieces, strange to say, his horses escaped without a scratch.
Three little boys were seated on a bench on top of the boiler warming themselves when it exploded. One was killed instantly, and the other two badly wounded and scalded. One boy was thrown into a tree and fell from there into a branch of water by the mill, and was one of the first to escaped and tell the story of the great horror.
The scene of the disaster was pitiable in the extreme. Pieces of men’s bodies, torn clothing and portions of the machinery were all thrown promiscuously together. The greater number of those killed were buried Sunday and a gloom sorrowful beyond expression seemed over the entire community. The wreck was visited by hundreds of people during Saturday and Sunday, and the sympathy of many hearts flowed out to the afflicted and bereft relations of those who had been so suddenly called away from earth. Death is terrible at any time, even when we watch at the bedside of those who we know are doomed to die. We feel that he is truly the “king of terrors,” but when our loved ones go from us in the morning well, happy, and the promise of long life before them, and before the noon are brought back mangled corpses, then and then only, can we measure the depth and extent of the suffering the stricken relatives of those who were killed in this disaster must experience.
It will long be remembered as a “black Friday” in the history of Greene County, and we indulge the hope that we may never again be called upon to write such a story of suffering and sorrow.

The above article copied word for word from a single column article that originally appeared in the publication “The Weekly Bloomfield Democrat,” the year 1877, day and month are unknown.
This copy transcribed by Benita Sheets Steyer, from a copy obtained by Mable Crites Johnson in Greene County, Indiana May 2008.
Maria/ Marcia Barker who married Thomas Phillips?

Hi,

I am looking for anyone who might be able to give me some information on the daughter of Thomas Barker and Martha Truax who lived in Greene County, Indiana from the early 1820's and on. Her name was Maria Barker. Supposedly she married Thomas Phillips, a black smith, in Greene County, Indiana. I have been able to find no record of a Maria Barker married to a Thomas Phillips but I did find a marriage record of a Marcia Smith to a Thomas Philips on July 21, 1844 in Greene County, Indiana.

There is a Marcia Smith in the 1850 living next to the son of Thomas Barker and Martha Truax and in 1860 she is living with them (Thomas Jr and Mary Bough).

Does anyone know if Maria/Marcia Barker married a Smith and then married Thomas Philips?

I belive she might have been born around 1800 but most family trees I have looked at say about 1788 in Kentucky.

Thanks.

Obituary of Robert SCOTT [1806KY—1883IN]

THE BLOOMFIELD DEMOCRAT, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Friday, April 20, 1883, Volume XV, Number 4, Page 2, Columns 4, “OBITUARY.”

We have had a large mortality in this vicinity during the last two weeks.

Next came Mr. Robert SCOTT. He died after a brief illness of an affection of the kidneys. Mr. SCOTT was one of our oldest and best citizens. He had attained the age of 77 years. He had been for more than 50 years an honored member of the M. E. church. He will be missed by his church and the entire community.

“Death loves a shining mark.” This has been verified, singularly in the decease of the four whose names are herein mentioned. They are gone. All had lived well and were ready to die, and this is the happiest reflection left to the stricken ones who survived. After all, worthiness of life finds its highest and noblest illustration in thoughtful and careful preparation for the future. The coronation of citizenship finds its highest ultimate expression in a life that in its ending, opens into the fruition of everlasting life. The sadness of the moment is alleviated in the joyous possession upon which our departed friends have entered.
T.D.W.
Worthington, April 16, 1883
—
NOTES—RLJ: (1) INDEX TO MARRIAGE RECORDS IN GREENE COUNTY, INDIANA, 1939, WPA, Page 282: MCCLAREN, Mary A. to Robert SCOTT, 18 MAR 1845, Book D, Page 53.
Obituary of Lydia Jane (HOLTSCLAW) PHILLIPS [1857IN-1934IN]

THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, March 1, 1934, Volume LVIII, Number 18, Page 1, Column 4, ‘AGED PIONEER RESIDENT DIED HERE MONDAY-Expired At Home of Daughter, Mrs. Reed Letsinger, On Monday Night [Transcribed on April 20, 2008 by RLJ from a digital photo of the original newspaper on file in the Greene County Historical Society Archives.]

With that calmness and serenity in which she had met life’s problems and faced its emergencies, Mrs. Lydia Jane PHILLIPS passed from this mortal life into life eternal Monday evening at seven o’clock. On account of her frail body weakened by years of ill health she had left her own home to spend the winter in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Reed LETSINGER, where her death occurred.

Lydia Jane HOLTSCLAW was born on a farm in Center Township, Greene County, Indiana, September 23, 1857; died in Bloomfield February 26, 1934; aged seventy-six years, five months, three days.

She came of sturdy stock.

She was a daughter of William and Elizabeth (STALCUP) HOLTSCLAW,
-
(Continued on-Page Six, {Columns 4 & 5})
-
AGED PIONEER RESIDENT DIED HERE MONDAY-(Concluded from Page One)
-
early residents of this county. Testing his patriotism her father had an experience that did not come to a great many men of this county-he was a soldier in the Mexican and Civil War. He is remembered as a plain outspoken man with the sturdy qualities of a pioneer. On her mother’s side was Hance STALCUP-her mother’s father-whose name is inseparably connected with the early history of this county-a typical pioneer who, braving the dangers of the wilderness, came into this county with the first settlers and accumulated wealth, if acres made wealth, for he came into possession of large stretches of land, including the greater part of what is now known as the “American Bottom.” He was unusually well educated for his time and was one of the first surveyors in this county.

Into her father’s home were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy, and only one of whom now remains. She is Mrs. John BINGHAM, of Fresno, California. The others, besides Mrs. PHILLIPS were Mrs. Sarah CAIN, the mother of Orval and Roy and Elva CAIN, of Bloomfield, and Newton and Jasper HOLTSCLAW, the latter, whose death occurred a few months ago, was almost a lifelong teacher of Greene County.

Her early education was obtained in a country school. Later she attended the Greene County Normal schools in Bloomfield, and for one term she was a student at the Central Normal School, which was then located at Ladoga but is now at Danville. The marvelous change which came in her lifetime in the physical comforts of travel is well illustrated in her experience in leaving home for that term of school. Her father started with her brother Jasper and herself to Bloomington to take the train for Ladoga. They found the roads so bad that they could not make the distance from their home in Center Township to Bloomington that day and they were compelled to stay of night at a farm home. She has frequently pointed out that home, still standing, in which she believed they spent the night. May a time in recent years she has sped away by motor in perfect comfort to Bloomington in less than an hour.

Her education was obtained for a very definite purpose. She and her parents were of one mind-she should have a career, she would spend her life as a teacher. Carrying out this purpose and with high hopes in the autumn of 1878 at the school at Cincinnati she set out upon what she believed was her life work. She taught one term. Plans went awry. A new chapter of an old, old story was written in her life. That influence which from the beginning of Time has caused multitudes to abandon careers and will continue throughout all the generations to come to cause other multitudes to give up cherished plans had come into her life. Love took a hand. Love recognizes no obstacles. Early that school year she met a young merchant of Cincinnati-John Asbury PHILLIPS by name, six months younger than she, and without realizing it they formed an attachment that deepened. Recently on Valentine day with her face radiant with joy as her member took her back to those days when troubles have wings and when the only worth0-while things are dreams and fancies and plans, she said to her daughter: “Fifty-four years ago today my courtship really began. On that day my friend made a trip all the way to Bloomington to get me a Valentine. Then I knew he cared.’

In a short time the school term closed and a few weeks later, April 20, 1879, they were married, and went to housekeeping at Cincinnati. Later they removed to Solsberry, then to Hobbieville, and then to a farm a short distance northwest of Hobbieville where they continued to make their home until their removal to Bloomfield. At all of the places, even on the farm, Mr. PHILLIPS owned a store and prospered.

Before leaving Cincinnati at tragedy came into their lives. That experience is a striking reminder of how great has been the advance in medical skill within the period of one lifetime. Their first-born, a little daughter, Jesse Ora, twenty-months old, became very ill. Its body was red as a flame. It was midsummer and the physician immediately diagnosed the case as heat and without prescribing any other remedies told the young mother to take it out-of-doors where it would be cooler. She did, and the little thing died almost in her arms. It had scarlet fever.

Two other children came into their home. Wendell Lester, who died in 1919, and Leona Etna, now Mrs. LETSINGER, who alone survives her mother.

The family removed to Bloomfield in the later months of 1895 and this continued to be their home the remainder of their lives, except for a brief period spent at Irvington. There they built a beautiful residence intending to spend there the remainder of their days. But all the comforts and culture and charm for which that Indianapolis suburb is noted could not wean them away from the old time friends and associations back home-and they returned to Bloomfield and immediately built a substantial home.

Her husband died April 16, 1921, leaving a large estate, and the well-deserved reputation of being one of the shrewdest and most successful business men in the history of Bloomfield.

Mrs. PHILLIPS took great delight in the Wednesday Reading Club of which she was a charter member, and she held her active membership till the end. The club members agree that all of her papers prepared for the club were done thoroughly and with great care. And her responses to the club roll calls were especially fresh and interesting.

When a girl in her teens she was converted in a meeting at the Ridgeport church and united with that church. Her conversion was marked by a definite experience which she remembered with pleasure to the end of her life.

For upwards of sixty years she was a member of the church, choosing the Methodist Church when one was found where she lived, but she was broadly tolerant in her nature and always had the kindliest feelings for all churches. In her various removals she made it a rule to transfer her membership immediately to her new home. And it was one of the rules of her life that she would go to church the first Sunday after her arrival at her new home. She was very happy in her church life. She loved its worship services; she loved its people and its social life and was rarely missing from its family dinners and social gatherings. She rallied her strength to go to church to see the recent pictures of the Holy Land, which she enjoyed very much, and all of which she saw, except the final evening.

She could not sing, but she loved music, and with an open hymnal she followed the lines while the congregation sang. It was she who when this church was rebuilt seven years ago, donated the pipe organ and had it installed. When word went out to her that the church was cramped financially she responded generously. Her faith was deep and abiding and rested upon the Rock of Ages which to her was a real as these church walls. She was neighborly in spirit; she bridled her tongue; she was charitable toward the faults of others; she kept the Commandments ‘from her youth up.’ Her frail body took her many times to the hospital, she was patient. She traveled four times to California, but her home-coming always was a great joy. The devotion between her and her five grandchildren-Catherine, John Robert, Richard and Elizabeth LETSINGER-was mutually tender and beautiful.

The whole spirit and tenor of her life touching her faith in immortality and her thoughtfulness of others is tenderly expressed in the familiar lines of Tennyson: ‘May there be no moaning of the bar, when I put out to sea. I hope to meet my Pilot face to face when I have crossed the bar.’

The funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. M. A. FARR and Rev. Elmer ST.CLAIR, officiating. Interment in Grand View Cemetery.

The out-of-town relatives attending were: Mrs. Ward BARLEY, of Palestine, Illinois; Mrs. Frank PHILLIPS, Fillmore, California; Mrs. Clyde YOHO, Mrs. Mary YOHO, and Mr. and Mrs. J. O. HUMPHREYS, of Bloomington; Rev. and Mrs. Elmer ST.CLAIR, of Spencer Mr. and Mrs. Oscar DAUGHTERY, of Jasonville; Mrs. Ella WEBSTER and Mrs. Emma BYNUM, of Lyons; Miss Catherine LETSINGER of New York City; John LETSINGER, a student of DePauw University.
-
Link to the Obituary of her mother, Elizabeth Ann (STALCUP) HOLTSCLAW [1830IN-1906IN]:
http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ind...
-
Link to the Obituary of her father, William HOLTSCLAW [1826KY-1911IN], a Mexican War Veteran:
http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ind...
-
Link to the Obituary of her brother, James Newton HOLTSCLAW [1852IN-1925IL]:
http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ind...
-
Link to the Obituary of her daughter, Leona Etna (PHILLIPS) LETSINGER [1881IN-1957IN]:
http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ind...
-
LETSINGER was born near Jasonville, May 24, 1849. He was the youngest of thirteen children of Lewis P. and Margaret A. LETSINGER, early pioneer settlers of Jasonville.

His youth was spent on the farm and some of his most vivid youthful experiences occurred during the stirring days of the Civil War. Five of his older brothers and two brother-in-law served volunteer enlistments in the Union Army. One brother died while in service and another was killed in the battle of Antietam.

He attended the public school of the neighborhood and later attended Ascension Seminary at Farmersburg, taught school a few years and then entered Indiana University Law School, from which school he was graduated in 1875. After graduation from law school he came to Bloomfield, forming a partnership for the practice of law with the late Capt. John D. ALEXANDER. This partnership continued for many years until Capt. ALEXANDER moved to Bedford. He continued the practice of law until the infirmities of age rendered him unable to do so.

On December 24, 1879, he was united in marriage with Mary E. CUSHMAN, who preceded him in death April 24, 1928. To this union were born two sons, Reed A. and Leo C. LETSINGER, both of whom survive, and one son who died at birth. There are surviving also nine grandchildren and one brother Lewis E. LETSINGER, of Jasonville.

His parents in pioneer days helped establish and maintain the Methodist church in their community and he in early youth united with that church. During his life he was a consistent attendant, worker in, and supporter of the church.

Mr. LETSINGER was the oldest living member of the Greene County Bar Association at the time of his death.

The funeral services were held yesterday at the First M.
THE BLOOMFIELD DEMOCRAT, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Friday, July 8, 1927, Volume LXVI, Number 56, Page 1, Column 2, LIFE-TIME RESIDENT OF BLOOMFIELD EXPIRES-Mrs. Elizabeth Cushman, Was Born, Reared and Lived All of Life In Bloomfield Surroundings.’ [Transcribed on April 17, 2008 by RLJ from microfilm of the original newspaper on file in the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library.]

The funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth CUSHMAN were held at the home on East Spring Street, Thursday afternoon at 2:30, where the deceased had lived for many years, and interment was made in Grand View Cemetery in charge of George E. KIDD, funeral director.

Mrs. CUSHMAN was one of Bloomfield’s oldest and highest esteemed ladies. She possessed a fine Christian character and was loved by all. She was born on the site now occupied by the Bloomfield Trust Company, and her beautiful and useful life was spent in sight of the public square and the place where she was born.

The services were conducted by Rev. Guy V. HARTMAN, pastor of the First Methodist church, of which she was a devoted member from early childhood. The music was furnished by a trio composed of H. L. DONEY, Gordon E. MCCRACKEN and Courtland M. CHAMBERS. The many beautiful floral offerings were evidence of the high esteem in which she was held by all.

Elizabeth Jane LESTER was born January 23, 1836, and died July 6, 1927. Her parents, Willis D. and Mary (TATE) LESTER were pioneers of Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana.

She was one of eleven children, only one sister, Mrs. Emma WEATHERWAX, surviving. At the age of 19 she was united in marriage with John Milton CUSHMAN. Their home was blessed with her mother’s number of children, five of whom preceded her to the Great Beyond. Those who survive are Mary Esther LETSINGER, Gertrude TITUS, John CUSHMAN, Robert CUSHMAN, all residing in Bloomfield; Emma BYNUM, of Coldwater Michigan, and Ella WEBSTER, of Lyons.

Her husband was called to His Home Above, November 1, 1887, leaving at a time when it seemed he was most needed. Thus the responsibility of the family rested heavily upon the mother. But with patience and a tust in Divine help, undaunted she labored on with a faithfulness that only a mother could.

She was modest, kindhearted, ever ready to lend a hand to help others. She was loved by all who knew her.

She united with the M E. church when a girl, and was faithful in attendance at the services as long as she was so privileged. It was always a pleasure, and her desire was to encourage others to be faithful in Christian duties.
