THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, November 28, 1918, Volume XLIII, Number 1, Page 4, Column 4, “DEATH’S HARVEST. STONE” [Transcribed from Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library’s IHS Microfilm Records.]

William Riley STONE, youngest son of Riley M. and Margaret STONE, was born January 27,1872, and departed this life November 20, 1918, aged forty-six years, nine months and twenty-three days.

He was united in marriage to Alice MORTLAND September 25, 1893. To this union were born eight children, namely: Edith, Fredrick, Freda, James, Leone, Paul, Martha and Harold, seven of whom, with their mother remain to mourn this loss. One son James having preceded him in death. He leaves besides these, two brothers, two sisters and many other relatives and friends. He united with the M. E. church at Scotland at the age of thirty and lived a consistent Christian life. He was a kind and loving husband and an indulgent father, and a good neighbor, every ready to held those who were in distress. He was a faithful worker in the church and always had a word of cheer and comfort for those who needed it. He bore his long illness with patience and kindness, was so appreciative of those who administered to him. Often prayed and sang during his illness. All that loving hands and medical attention could do was done for him but the Lord said it is enough, come up higher. So ends the earthly life of a kind and loving father and faithful Christian. “Mark ye a perfect man and behold the upright for the end thereof is peace.”

The funeral was conducted at the home in Scotland last Friday afternoon by Pastor. J. D. SMITH. Two songs were sung by Mrs. J. D. SMITH and others. Interment in Scotland Cemetery.
