THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, VOL. XLVI., NO. 11, Page 1, Column 6, BLOOMFIELD, Greene County, Indiana, Thursday, January 26, 1922, "PIONEER WOMAN PASSES TO HER REWARD."

After an illness of several weeks, the spirit of Mrs. Sarah A. OLIPHANT, passed away Monday morning.

The deceased was born upon a farm south of Hobbieville and spent her entire life in Greene County, residing in South BLOOMFIELD, near the home of her son, Frank OLIPHANT, for nearly twenty years.

Her husband, after moving from eastern Greene County, engaged in the milling business and operated the mills at BLOOMFIELD, Richland Furnace and the old Red Mill in the eastern edge of Linton.

Sarah Ann DUGGER, daughter of Thomas and Sabra DUGGER, was born February 4, 1838, at Hobbieville, Greene County, Ind.

She was married to Jefferson L. OLIPHANT April 3, 1856. A few years later the Civil war came on, and the young husband volunteered in the service of his country, leaving his wife and three little children to keep the home fires burning. After returning from the war, the father, with his family, lived at Hobbieville till about 1878, when they moved to BLOOMFIELD, and for forty-four years this was Grandma OLIPHANT's home.

She was the mother of four children—Nettieeris, born March 3, 1857, and who was married to John LANDIS and lived for a time in BLOOMFIELD, then moved to Linton, where she died December 16, 1918; Frank OLIPHANT of Bloomfield; Margaret Lister , who died when two years old, and Elsworth OLIPHANT, born April 9, 1867, and died at his home in Bruceville, Ind., April 18, 1920. The husband and father died June 16, 1907.

Grandma OLIPHANT gave her heart to her Lord at the age of eighteen and became a member of the Christian church at Bethel in Jackson township. After removing to BLOOMFIELD she transferred her membership to this place, and remained faithful till her death. She passed to the better life January 23, 1922; aged eighty-three years, eleven months and nine days.

One son, Frank, twenty-three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, survive. Also two brothers Francis M. DUGGER, of BLOOMFIELD, and William R. DUGGER, of DUGGER, and three sisters, Mrs. Martha RICHESON and Mrs. Nancy LAMB, both of BLOOMFIELD, and Mrs. Hettie MEREDITH, OF DUGGER, remain.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in BLOOMFIELD on Tuesday afternoon, January 24, 1922. The body was then laid to its last resting place in the family lot in Grandview Cemetery. "It is sown a natural body, it will be raised a spiritual body."
