David Woodly Blaker, a resident of East Main Street, Butler, Indiana, passed peacefully away at early dawn Thursday morning, May 7, 1908. He was at the home of his son George, three miles east of the city, known as the Blaker homestead. Death came at the age of 77 years 11 months and 18 days. Mr. Blaker had been a resident of DeKalb county for nearly fifty-five years and in 1853 was one of the four families that owned and occupied the site of the present city of Butler. He was the last of that parental company. The above named homestead was purchased by Mr. Blaker in 1867, where he with his compainon braved the toils of life together unitl death took wife and mother August 28, 1898. Mr. Blaker was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church about the year 1859 and continued a consistent member of this church and one class in the city of Butler, and for many years he was a very active worker, continuing very zealous to the church of his choice and the cause of Christ to the day of his death. Brother Blaker was born near Picture Rock, Leconing county, Pa., May 19, 1830, and was married to Ethelindia Fowler July 4, 1852. To this union were born 10 children, seven sons and three daughters. Those left to mourn the loss of father are Geo. W., Fredrick D., William L. and James C., all of this county and Mrs. Ella Mabelle Barber of Adrian, Mich. There are also 19 grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and neighbors to mourn his departure. The funeral was held at the Big Run U.B. church, Saturday forenoon, May 9th. Owing the illness of Rev. Albertson,pastor of the M. E. chruch, Rev. O. B. Wells was called to conduct the services. Burial in the Big Run cemetery. (RE: The Butler Weekly Record - May 15, 1908)
