Surnames: McIntosh, Ellis, Andrews, White, Newkirk, Scott,
This book has no cover, and no index, and no author. I bought it on Ebay; it just has the insides, but it is full of Indiana biographies. I am not researching this family, just thought I would share. I do not know anymore about these families or these surnames. NOTE: I don’t know if there is any additional mention of this family in the book, it has no index. I do not want to sell this book. I am typing the biographies from it.

JOHN MARTIN McIntosh. Like a number of the old pioneer families of Crawford County, the one bearing the name of McIntosh came to this state from Virginia, where, in still earlier days, it had owned large plantations. Agriculture has always been an important interest although not an exclusive one, for in other lines of useful effort the members of this family have shown sturdy enterprise and sound judgment. One of its prominent members today is John Martin McIntosh, justice of the peace at Marengo, active in the business life of the city, and formerly, for many years, a valued teacher in the public schools. Judge McIntosh is a man of substantial fortune, owning a valuable, well-improved farm in Crawford County, and additionally has large real estate interests in the City of Indianapolis. John Martin McIntosh was born in Orange County, Indiana, June 29, 1864, and is a son of Andrew and Elizabeth (Ellis) McIntosh. This branch of the McIntosh family was founded by the grandfather of Judge McIntosh, who was born in Virginia, but in young manhood made his way overland to the Hoosier State and took up land in Crawford County, where he rounded out a long and useful career as a tiller of the soil and was a man of high character who was held in the firm confidence of his neighbors. Andrew McIntosh was born in Crawford County, where he attended the public schools, and as a youth adopted agricultural work for his vocation and followed it during his entire life, passing away in 1919. He married Elizabeth Ellis, a native of Washington County, who died in 1916, and they became the parents of eight children: One who died in infancy, Sarah, Ida, John Martin, George, Samuel. Anna and Eli W. John M. McIntosh acquired his early education in the public schools, following which he pursued a course at Valparaiso University, and then went to the normal school at Lebanon, Ohio. Upon graduation from this institution he began his career as a public school teacher, which he followed for a quarter of a century, all of his services in this direction having been in Indiana with the exception of one year at Eagle Pass, Texas. He became one of the widely known and popular educators of this state; belonged to several educational organizations, and at all times had the esteem of his contemporaries and the confidence and friendship of pupils and their parents. Always interested in public affairs, in 1919 Judge McIntosh was elected a member of the board of township trustees and served in that capacity for four years, and at present is a notary public and justice of the peace. In June, 1929, he opened a gas and oil station at Marengo, which he operated in connection with his other interests and duties until 1931, and is the owner of a good farm in Crawford County and real estate at Indianapolis. He is accounted one of the valuable citizens of Marengo, where he has always supported worthy measures. He is a consistent member of the Christian Church, and is fraternally affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. On August 27, 1906, Judge McIntosh was united in marriage with Miss Nancy Elizabeth Andrews, daughter of Rev. William L. J. and Mary M. (White) Andrews, of Orange County, Indiana. To this union there have been born four children: Alberta, of Marengo, born June 8, 1907, who married Cloyd Newkirk, and has one son, Ralph Raymond, born March 13, 1931; Andrew, also of Marengo, born September 15, 1908, who married Glacial Scott and has two children, Rita Bernice, born September 2, 1929, and Archie Brian, born June 17, 1981; Woodrow, born February 9 1911, and Jay, born June 9, 1915, who are attending school. Gladys, born February 21, 1922, an adopted child, is also attending school.
