I have a lot of information on James McCaffery and Elizabeth Schofield. They were my great, great, grandparents. Elizabeth was born in England in 1845. James was born on Nov. 27th, 1831 and died on Oct. 2, 1898. Rebecca Mann was James' mother. His father, James McCaffery married Rebecca Mann in County Tyrone. They lived at Dunmoyle Lodge. The home was lost due to gambling and horses. It went to the Mann family. That is why James emigrated. Elizabeth's father was a mining engineer who came to Virginia under a 3 yr contract. They did not like America and when the contract was up, he rode horseback to Baltimore to purchase tkts. back to England. On his return, he was thrown from the horse and was killed. The family stayed on here. One of Elizabeth's brothers fought for the Confederacy in the War between the States. Mccaffery is a corruption of McGuire or Maguire, one of the leading clans in Tyrone. Anyway, they married.
They had 6 children, Franny, Eliza Jane, Isabella, Margaret, Rebecca and James. James was my great, great grandfather. He married Elizabeth Schofield, had 6 children too. Ann Jane (Jenny) was my great grandmother. She married John Wesley Eskey, parents of my grandmother, Henrietta Lea Eskey. I have lots of info, including info on the Mann's (also relatives). My mother visited Sixmilecross, County Tyrone, in the 1960's. I have a picture of Dunmoyle Lodge, where my great, great grandfather was born. It had been blown up by the British due to non payment of taxes and has been used for reforestation. When my mom visited, all that remained was the gate keeper's house and the chapel. Sir John Ross was the last person to live there. He was married to a Mann. He was the last Lord Chancellor of Ireland. Quite a history. Email me if you would like a picture or more info.
