Lena Casterline dies at hospital
Lena Casterline, a resident of Crete Manor, died Dec. 29, at the age of 87 at the Crete Municipal Hospital.
Miss Casterline, a retired secretary for Fairmont Creamery was a resident at Crete Manor for the last 11 years, making her the longest resident of the home.
She was born September 14, 1889, in Crete to Aaron and Olive Casterline. She was raised by Sam Talhelm after her parents died, and was a graduate of Crete high school.
Her family included brothers Harry and Lloyd (her twin) and sister, Maude.
Besides the creamery, she was employed at McDonalds, The Crete News, and was an operator at the Lincoln Telephone Co.
Survivors include a nephew, Leonard Casterline of Farmington, Utah, and Mrs. Ed McDonald, formerly Ruth Talhelm, of Lewood, Kan. (transcribers note could the be Leawood, KS?)
Funeral services were held Tuesday, with the Rev. John Reehl officiating. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery.

Transcriber's note: Lena Casterline was the daughter of Aaron Casterline and Olive Welch. Aaron Casterline was the son of John Casterline and Eliza Wixon. An excerpt from Aaron Casterline's obit " Aaron Casterline was born May 13, 1838. He was married in young manhood to Lydia Townsend. To this union four children were born. The oldest child dying in childhood and the youngest died upon reaching manhood. Mr Casterline moved to Nebraska for his wife's health in 1877 but she died in 1878. He was married again in 1881. His second wife died leaving four children. She died as a result of childbirth when her twin boy and girl were born. Since that time the family has been separated. Two daughter are now living in Nebraska. Two sons in Salt Lake and a daughter here. One sister in Indiana. He has 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grand children (age 89)."
