Henry L. Dehner Dies Wednesday At Monroeville
Henry L. Dehner, 76, long time member of the Adams county council until his recent resignation, and one of the county’s leading citizens for many years, died Wednesday morning at his home in Monroeville.
Mr. Dehner had moved to Monroeville only a few months ago after retiring from his farm in Union township. He was born in Illinois but had spent most of his life in Adams county.
Mr. Dehner, a lifelong Democrat, served on the county council for 35 years, having first been appointed to the board Sept. 2, 1926, and being reelected to the board continuously. He served as chairman of the council for 26+ years until his resignation in August. He was first named chairman Aug. 1, 1935. He was also a member of the Adams county alcoholic beverages board for a number of years.
He had also served as president of the Monroeville Corp. Equity elevator for 25 years.
Mr. Dehner was a member of the St. Rose Catholic church at Monroeville, and its Holy Name society.
Funeral Saturday
Surviving are his wife, Edith; one son, Henry L. Dehner of Fort Wayne; two stepsons, Richard Rider of Monroeville, and Robert Rider of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Mrs. Jean Chaney of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Mary Baker and Mrs. Susan Converset, both of Decatur; one-step daughter, Mrs. Dick Clay of Monroeville; three brothers, John Dehner of Fort Wayne, Eugene Dehner of Indianapolis, and Joseph Dehner of Marion; two sisters, Mrs. Mary O’Connor of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Luetta Clark of Indianapolis; three grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at the Marquart funeral home at Monroeville, and at 9 a.m. in St. Aose Catholic church at Monroeville. The Rev. Edward Roswog will officiate and burial will be in the Catholic cemetery in Decatur. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today. The Holy name society will recite the rosary at 8:30 p.m. (Oct. 18, 1961)
