Howard T. McCabe, 80, Geneva, founder of W&M Manufacturing in Portland, died Tuesday at noon at the Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, following an extended illness.

McCabe first founded the manufacturing industry in Geneva in 1961 and following a fire there, relocated the plant in Portland.

He was currently serving as its board chairman.

Born Oct. 16, 1911, in Woodington, Ohio, he was the son of Thomas A. and Maude (Martin) McCabe. He was a graduate of Geneva High School and was married Oct. 19, 1940, in Detroit, Mich., to Dorothy J. Kindell, who survives.

McCabe was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Geneva, and the Elks Lodge of Portland.

Surviving besides his wife are one son, Robert R. McCabe, Berne, one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Kay) Pierce, Portland; and two granddaughters.

Services are set for 10 am Friday in the Downing Funeral Home, Geneva, with the Rev. David Henry officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery, Geneva, at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church wheelchair ramp fund.
