Eli
Hirschy, 65, route 4, Portland (
Jay County), a retired farmer and a former assistant supervisor with the
Adams County Highway Department, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the
Jay County Hospital, Portland.
Mr. Hirschy worked for the highway department for 18 years.
He was a member of the
Monroe United Brethren Church.
Born in
Adams County on Sept. 21, 1918, he was the son of George and Ida Biberstein-Hirschy, and was married to Ruth
Myers on Oct. 2, 1937; she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Dale L., Marion; Bill Edward, Berne; Dewain L., route 2 Portland; five grandchildren; four brothers,
Noah, Roy and
Sylvan, all of Monroe; Chester, Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Esther and Edna
Hirschy, Monroe; Mrs. Oscar (Sylvia)
Bertsch, Bluffton. One son,
Eldon, died in 1949.
Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the
Downing Funeral Home, Geneva, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Rev. Stephen
Boardman and Rev. Mike Brown will officiate at the services. Burial will be in the Ray Cemetery.
