Lawrence E. Jacobs, 79, 333 N. first St., died at 9:09 p.m. Sunday at home after having been in failing health for two years.
He was born in Blue Creek Township on June 15, 1906 to George K. and Ida
Gephart Jacobs and married the former Nettie
Smith on May 8, 1934 in
Monroe. She survives.
He retired in 1978 from the
Decatur Salvage Co., after working there 45 years. He began his career when Felix
Maier owned the business; later, the
Imel family purchased it.
Aside from his wife, other survivors are a son, George W. Jacobs of
Route 6; three sisters -- Mrs. Paul (Florine)
Gerber of 1510
Madison St.; Mrs. Robert (Nora)
Parker of
Fort Wayne; and Mrs. Marion (Barbara)
Sipe of 840 N. 12th St.; a brother, Norman
Jacobs of
Dayton, Ohio; a half-sister, Gladys
Gibson of Hoagland; 11 grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren.
Three sisters, a half-sister and a half-brother preceded him in death.
His funeral is at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Zwick-Boltz and
Jahn Funeral Home, with Roy
Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in
Decatur Cemetery.
Visiting hours at the funeral home are noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 p.m. to the time of service on Wednesday.
