Hello Dorothy-

Denise (the other poster to your query) is absolutely right about the WWI Draft Registration records. They are a great source of information and I would recommend that you do attempt to pick up a copy of your father's registration card if he registered.

If I understabd your post, however, what you are looking for are his actual military records while he was a serving member of our armed forces. It is quite possible that if he enlisted prior to the dates mandating his registration, a draft registration card would not even exist for him. ( I would check, nonetheless, following Denise's advice). Even if he did register, it would have occurred prior to his entry into the service and, of course, would not include a service number, military unit, etc.

If it is your intention to obtain his military records while serving, here is a website for the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis where the records are kept. Everything is explanined here for obtaining the records including the necessary form which you will have to submit.

Good Luck in Your Search-
