Hi Pat-

Was your John Picton a Civil War vet?

There was a John Picton who served in the 80th Illinois Infantry. His hometown at the time of his enlistment (6 July 1862) was Alma, St. Clair County, Illinois. St. Clair County is located just south of the Madison County named in the previous post. All of the counties named (Pike, Madison & St. Clair) are all located in far western Illinois right along the Mississippi River.
If this is your John Picton, he was 21 at the time of his enlistment and listed his occupation as "miner".
Corporal John Picton he was discharged 10 June 1865.
