Moweakqua, IL.....has anyone heard of this or am I not spelling it right?

Hello, I have an obituary for a family member and it notes he was born in Moweakqua, IL. I'm having trouble finding this town.....I've did a search and have turned up nothing.
Is it spelt correctly? Where is it located? What County is it in?

Also, do they have marriage/birth/death indexes? Who would I contact to do see about these?

Are there index books available for marriages/birth/death/cemeteries?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
T

I looked over some of your other postings. You need to get a good road atlas, like Rand McNally. Make sure it has county lines marked. Moweaqua is right on the Christian Co. and Shelby Co. line. It is also very close (a mile maybe) to the Macon Co. line to the north. So, if your family member doesn't show up in Shelby Co. records, be sure to check Macon Co. and Christian Co. too. The other person is right about the Illinois State Archives. You can easily get there by going to google.com and typing in Illinois Statewide Marriage Index 1763 - 1900. I noticed that you are interested in Moultrie Co. If you leave Moweaqua and drive straight east, you will soon be in Moultrie Co. near Bethany. I haven't been down to the Shelby Co. Gen. Soc. for several years but they used to have lots of genealogical material. The Decatur Illinois Genealogical Society also has a great deal of material. Your spellling is off but that is the way Moweaqua is pronounced. :^) Hope this helps. Kathleen (STANFIELD) COOK
