I am looking for info on these people. I believe they are my ex-husband's paternal gr-gr-grandparents. I am researching his family for my children and grandchildren. Any info would be helpful. Contact me at togieville1@live.com.

Are you sure his name is Louis? There's a Charles Frederick Englebright and his wife Samantha listed in various US Censuses from 1880 to 1930 in Illinois.

Where did you find their names? What approx. birth dates do you have? Where did they most likely live?

I got the names mixed up. It is Charles & Samantha Englebright; but I also have a Louis & Caroline Englebright listed in the census of C F & Samantha Englebright. They were in Ripley, IN then my ex's family are from Carmi & Mill Shoals, IL area.

From various census and passenger info I think that the father was Charles Louis and the son was Charles Frederick.

Do you have access to this at ancestry?:

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 > 1860 > June > 28 > Herzozin Von Brabant

I believe that it is the passenger entry into the US for Charles Louis, his wife and children...

I forgot to mention -- on that passenger list, the name was Engelbrecht (which makes sense, given that they were German -- Their "original" surname would not have ended in Bright.)

From the passenger list, I think their hometown was Unterlübbe (now in Germany.)

From the passenger list, Ernst Englebrecht/Englebright was Charles Friedrich's brother. There's an Ernst Englebright living in Johnson, Ripley, Indiana in 1870. See Census.

According to this page, Ernst was married in 1879 (I'm assuming it's the same man...)

Thank you for the info. You are a great help to me. Hopefully in the near future I will have internet access @ home and possibly a short term subscription to ancestry.com so that I can do more research on my own. Again, thanks!!!

I couldn't find anything on ENGLEBRIGHT at USGenWeb > IL > White County, but there was a query of somebody who had information on ENGLEBRIGHT and also on Philip FLECK; Elizabeth BOEHRINGER, & Mary BACHMAN. I do not know how these connect to ENGLEBRIGHT, but (John) Philip FLECK (Apr. 1830, Germany [per 1900 census] - 23 Sep. 1910, White Co., IL) m. 1857, Germany, Elizabeth BOEHRINGER (9 Nov. 1834 - 1 Feb. 1901). In 1900, Carmi Twp., White, IL, they were listed as immigrants of 1858, married 43 years, had twelve children, 6 living. With them, sons b. IL: Jacob, Aug. 1878; Andy, Feb. 1883.

Can you put these together?

I don't nderstand all of this either. I only know about Victor & Grace Englebright and their families. But thanks for sharing and maybe I can make a connection someday! I am still new at all of this technology.

They haven't responded to me either. I think you could try sending them a message using the Messages feature....? Maybe they thought I was trying to "scam" them somehow...? (although all I wrote was that I was passing along your name.)
