PEORIA -- Edgar Emerson Gosnell , 75, formerly of 6015 Idlewild, died at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at Fondulac Woods Health
Care Center in East Peoria.
Born Oct. 27, 1922, in Bowling Green, Ky., to John C. and Mary Bell Clarkson Gosnell , he married Shirley Grose on June 5, 1955, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Tracy Glass of Pekin; one son, Kirby of Dallas, Texas; two grandsons; and one sister, Millie Little of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and five stepbrothers.
He was a chemist at Corn Products and Pekin Energy for 43 years, retiring in 1988. He was a graduate of Western Kentucky University.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cumerford-Endsley-Diggle Funeral Home, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Carl Bollinger will officiate. Interment will be in Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Roanoke Township.

PEKIN - Shirley Gosnell , 78, of Pekin, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
Shirley was born on April 17, 1932, in Roanoke, Ill., to Richard and Bernice (Blunier) Grose. She married Edgar Emerson Gosnell on June 5, 1955, in Peoria, Ill. He preceded her in death in May of 1998. Her parents also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two children, Kirby Gosnell of Dallas, Texas, and Tracy (James) Glass of Pekin; two grandchildren, Griffin Glass and Gavin Glass of Pekin; and one sister, Betty (Lowell) Pells of Kokomo, Ind.
In 1950, Shirley graduated as valedictorian at Berrien Springs High School in Michigan, where her family lived for a while before returning to the Peoria area.
Prior to marrying in 1955, she worked briefly at LeTourneau-Westinghouse in Peoria. Shirley and Emerson were competition ballroom dancers who met at Arthur Murray's Dance Studio in Peoria, and as a couple they proceeded to win several Midwest dance contests.
Shirley was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who will be missed greatly. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker for many years, she enjoyed reading and was a lifelong fan of the Cubs and Bradley Braves.
Her visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. A private family gathering will take place the following afternoon. Burial will be in the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.
