My gg grandfather Alonzo Chamberlain moved to Shirland, Illinois in 1855. He moved from Vermont where he was known to be a conductor on the Underground Railroad.
His two children went to school in Winnebago County. I would like to find the address of his farm where he lived from 1855 to 1871. I also would like to find any record showing his association with the Republican Party during this period.
I have his old photo album with photos of his wife and children. The photo album cover shows an exquisite copper engraving of a man riding through the woods on a horse- he appears to be a fugitive slave! Has anyone seen this copper engraving any where else?
His story and picture of the copper engraving can be seen on my website: http://www.thechamberlainstory.com/2017/08/24/alonzo-undergr...
If anyone can help me learn about his life during this time, please let me know.
