David and Catherine McCormick -- Marion Area

I have traced my family to Andrew James McCormick, whose parents were David and Catherine McCormick. I find them on the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Williamson County. The families were very large. It appears that David and Catherine were born in Va and some of the children were born in TN and some in IL.

It appears that David may have had brothers or close relatives named Stephen. William, and James who lived as neighbors or very near by. I'm scrambling for any scrap of information and I'm willing to share the descendency of Andrew J. McCormick.

What happened to all these people? All of the families are large. Looking for cemetery information, births, deaths, marriages, any clues at all. I have about exhausted my Internet resources.

Thank you for your time,
Laura McCormick Hazelwood

We found some Grimes and McCormick land transfers in Robertson County, TN while those families were there. They seemed to have migrated to Williamson County, Illinois and remained neighbors around 1850...there may have been some family relationships, too.

This is very interesting. I still haven't been able to trace the McCormick line much past David and Catherine. I wasn't aware of the Grimes/McCormick connection and will look into it further. Thank you for the tip. If I can be of any assistance with descendants of the McCormicks, please let me know.

I believe there are Moake family connections to the McCormick family, also.

Hi:

I have McCormicks in my line in the Williamson County area.
My great aunt Versa Jeter was married to Wayne C. McCormick from Herrin, IL. His parents were William and Jennie C. Munsey McCormirk. He had a brother named Wilburn Carmen. Their grandparents were William C. McCormick b. Cir 1833 in Robertson, Tn and Conna Edys b. Cira 1839 Robertson, TN.

William C. and Conna's chidren were: Martha E., Melissa J., Anna Rossetta, Ephriam, William C., Ora, and another female McCormick. Behnind William, I have a William Beaver McCormick married to a Martha Moakes. William Beaver McCormick's father as Marmaduke McCormick.

There were several McCormick families in Herrin, especially around the 1900-1930. One was a sherriff I think at one time during the time Charlie Birger was around.

I do know that the Jeter line also married into the Grimes family in Marion.

Wayne was a banker in Herrin and lived there all his life. My aunt was born in Marion, lived their for a few years, then after her father was killed and her mother remarried lived in West Frankfort, until she married Wayne. They lived in Herrin until they both died. Wayne has a son name Jerry Wayne.

Hope this helps out someway.

D. Andrew

The only McCormick link I have found in my Boles line in Williamson County is Ella Mae Boles, born about 1910, who married a John McCormick birthdate unknown. Son John McCormick Jr. shown in the 1930 census in Williamson County IL. Sorry, this is the only scrap or bit I have.

I have found a will for Stephen McCormack, 1870/71. It just mentions two daughters that were shown in his household in the 1850 census. No wife mentioned so it looks like he just had the two children surviving him.
