Does anyone have any info on James and Phebe/Phoebe Simmons who lived in Williamson County, Illinois between 1850 and perhaps up until 1900? They were both born in Robertson County, TN and moved up into the Marion area around 1850.

I have about 50 Williamson Co. genealogy books. If you can give me some more details I will check them for you. Did James and Phoebe die in Williamson Co.? Do you know who some of their children were?

Elmer often commented that he was disappointed to find he was named after his grandmother and not Geo. Washington, because he never told a lie. Elmer was cremated and his ashes scattered here).

I noticed that in at least one of the census yrs. your James and Phebe are living next to some of my Cashs and Stanley families. They came from Tn. also.

James and Phoebe Simmons are at Fountain Methodist Church Cemetery there in Williamson County, Illinois. They are buried at the back/0ld section near some Cash family members. I think there are some family ties back there. I was always thinking that the Sally Cash married to Reason Cash may have been Phoebe/Phebe's sister. But I found a marriage record from Old Shawneetown that said that Reason Cash had married a Sally Masser...so unless the Cash marriage was her second one... It is not our Sally Grimes who married him.


Of course, to complicate things, Reason had a son of the same name ..and perhaps an uncle, too. Old Shawneetown was a big migration crossing place and many travelling between Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and Illinois passed through there. It was an interesting old town with a reputation like Natchez Under the Hill. All the census facts on Sally Cash fit our Sally Grimes... Just that pesky marriage certificate exists.

I have been told that Reason Cash was married to another woman in Kentucky named Rhoda Spinks. He had some children with her, too. I think that the Sally was a second wife to him. I think Reason was a son to Richard Cash and other family members migrated up out of Muhlenberg Co, TN, too. I have only looked at that family while exploring the unlikely but possible Sally Grimes connection.

Phoebe Grimes Simmons' brother, Adam Grimes and his fily lived very near Phoebe and James Simmons. My husband is out of Adam's line.

Sorry, on my cell phone and hit a bump before posting was done. The name use of McCoy is interesting in your Simmons line as my Jim's grandfather Cephas also had that name. We just discovered on our last research trip that his name was Cephas McCoy Grimes.

Jim has Simmons kin from Illinois, too. One of his cousins married a Simmons.

I found them in my cemetery book. It says James and Phoebe married 4 Mar 1830 Davidson Co., Tn.
