Surnames: Ryrerski, Matecki
I am researching the Ryterski and Matecki families. My mom is Lorraine Matecki-Smith; the daughter of Martha Ryterski-Matecki and Frank Matecki. Her grandparents were Joseph and Mary Slunski-Ryterski. Joseph and Rose had 10 children; the first 6 were born in St. Louis; the last 4 in Nashville. They lived in the Baden community in north St. Louis. Per mom, Joseph moved the family to the farm in Nashville and he stayed in St. Louis working until my mom was about 4 years old. this would be around 1931 and coinside with the death of Rose's mother.

Per mom, Rose would talk about coming to America. They came through Baltimore and Rose would tell Lorraine of the terrible conditions on the ship; they were in one of lower parts of the ship. Rose was fluent in German and Polish. Her parents were Michael Slumski and Maria-Mohn (1851-1931/32). she had 3 siblings: Marie, Anna (1876-1925) and Franz (1873-?) Michael was from East Prussia; Marie from Thuringen.

Per mom, Joseph came to America from Thuringen, Germany when he was 1 year old. Apparently they had means and the family had staterooms on the deck. His parents were Michael (1844-1918) and Hedwig Pizarek (1856-1923). Michael's parents were Valenti (1817-1889) and Agnes (1820-1890) of Poznan, Poland.. Michael may have had a brother who came with them named Joseph. He married Magdalena Pizarek (Hedwig's sister?) My information comes from limited data from Dubois, Radom and Posen.

Michael and Hedwig had the following children born in the US and baptized at Radom (name is Riterski): Agnes, Rosa, Angela, Anna, Casmir, Johann, Max, Stanislaus, Francis, Eva and Ludwig (Walter)

Interestingly, Anna married Fred Wagner. Their son, Ernst Francis, married Grace Painter 15 November, 1922 at St. Joseph's church in St. Louis. One of the witnesses was Martha Ryterski, my grandmother (her aunt).

Both the Matecki and Ryterski family can be confusing. there are a number of people with the same names. Sibling from both families married each other. For example, Casmir Ryterski married Teresa Matecki, my Grandpa Frank Matecki's sister. I

The children I have of Joseph and Rose are: John, Martha, Angela (called Nellie), Helen, Cecelia, Mary, Alex, Leon, Henry and Anna Rose.

My information is from church records in Washington and Perry counties, Il and limited data from St. Louis.

I would appreciate input and clarification.
