I have no idea if I have the information you need or if your account is even still active or if you've already found who you are looking for; however, my grandmother's maiden name is Peggy Hoover. She was adopted around 7/8 and my great grandfather told me that her name was Grace before. My great grandfather taught Biology at a High school in St. Charles, IL, but I'm not sure about Hoopeston. I know her previous name was Wright because my own last name is Wright and she had to verify that she wasn't related to my grandfather before dating him. I don't know her birthday or exact age off the top of my head but it is within that range.

I am looking for the family of Nancy Jane Brown born in 1895 I think in Clay Co, IL, who married Walter E Cullum. They lived in Danville, he worked for Prudential Ins Co. I know that they had 3 children acording to the 1930 & 1940 IL census, Doris born abt 1918 in IL, Jane born abt 1922 in IN & Walter Jr born abt 1927 in IN. I think her mother may have been Margaret Jane Lewis Armstrong Brown. Margagret was my great great grandmother, with her 1st husband Samuel Hall Armstrong, their son Carl Armstong. I have no idea what happened to her after Samuel died, other than she married a JOhn or James Brown and had Nancy Jane. Nancy and her father were in the 1900 census, but not Margaret. What happened to her, when & where did she die? any help would be wonderful! Thank you,Lynn

My husband Al Mitchell worked there as his first job in 1965-1966. He speaks of it frequently and has good memories. Mike Dodson was the owner's son, he believes the owners were Earl and Florence "Nina" Dodson. Used to be a lady named Gertrude Plaster who was the cashier in the sales room. Hazel Logan, mother of Lloyd Logan who was a teacher at DHS,also worked there. Al did inventory, sales, deliveries and some repairs. There were 3 floors with a very old cargo elevator that worked by pulling a cable. They sold a variety of merchandise including decorative glassware, candles, lawn implements, peat moss and of course seeds.

The old County Cemetery / Vermilion County Home Cemetery / Poor Farm Cemetery is located in Tilton, adjacent to Songer Cemetery. You can see more information here:

http://www.vermilioncounty.info/illinois/vermilion/county-po...

There is really no stones at this cemetery (some that are buried in the county home may be in with the Songer Cemetery stones.) I'm working to updated Cemetery records/indexes - Could you pass along the information of the person (Name, death date, birth) that way I make sure it is in the cemetery list for the cemetery. Thanks. (You can send me an email at: cemetery at coan dot net

The old Children's Home is the present day Center for Children's Services. I had worked there for about 6 years, and was in the process of going through old pictures & scanning them when I was let go.

There website: http://www.tcfcs.net/

There are a few pictures on their website that I had scanned, but no longer have access to the pictures to know if any of them had names on them.... and even if they did, I know when I worked there they were VERY strict about giving out any old information because of privacy laws... even though they may or may not apply to old data like that, they always took the position of just deny any requests to be safe. (I'm surprised they even put the old pictures on their website.)

I had also tried, and have an open request to them that any old books/pictures/data they may want to "clean" up, they can donate to the local genealogical society. I'm just afraid someone will come along and just pitch a lot of important old records/pictures from the place.

Roy, your msg is old and you have probably already found Walnut Corner Cemetery but just thought I would add some clarification. Walnut Corner is in Newell Township within the city of Danville, IL. Just google a map of Danville and you will find it marked there. State Line, IN is not far from there, just over the state line. I have the sense that there is confusion because the people who were charter members of the cemetery were families (my ancestors) who had lived in Newell Township before moving on across the state line to State Line, IN. I know that they owned land in Newell Township and so used their land for a cemetery.

Sharen Clampitt
slc514@yahoo.com

Hello - I wonder if someone would look up a marriage record for John S. Lewis and Rachel J. Matthews. They were married in Vermilion County on October 29, 1860. I'm looking for any info about John's parents, where he lived, siblings, birthplace. Ancestry states this record can be found at the County Court Records, Film # 1298746 - 1298749.

Thanks.

My Grandmother's Grandmother was Delilah Payne b. in 1834 in VA. Her father was Jesse Payne. This we know.
We are guessing that her mother was Lucinda Payne who died in approx.1840 and then Jesse re-married and moved his family to Parke Co., IN in the 1840s.
Delilah marr. John N. Ebehart in 1850 and they settled in MO.
We are guessing that Delilah is from the Payne Family in VA.

I am trying to locate records on my great grandfather John Ditzler (Ditsler) and wife Anna Klaege Ditzler (Ditsler). The only records I find is the 1870 Census in Vermiiion Ct Illinos. Can anyone find any records on them. John was born in abt 1835 and came from Switzerland. Anna was born in abt 1841 and came from Prussia. It is so hard because their names change from Ditzler to Ditslear. My grandfather who was their son is William M Ditzler born in 1870.

We are currently trying to preserve the history of Camp Logan and would love to know if anyone had ancestors who trained there. Copies of photos or letters would be super.
I have family from the Danville area and I have the surnames Snyder, Mikesell, and Fancher/Fincher in my family tree. My maternal gr gr grand father is Joel Snyder who married Mary Jane Hatter.
The Mikesell surname ties into my Pulber/Pulver - Atchison - Smith line which starts with Lafayette Mikesell. Fincher is my paternal line...Raymond Fincher married Hazel Elliot. Raymond is the son of Conrad and Sarah See-Elliot. Hope we can connect on at least one of these lines! Cheryl
