Hello, does anyone have information on the children of Frederick G? I know there are lots of Chesleys in this area of IL at this time and I'm trying to establish a connection to my great grandfather--John A. Chesley, b. 11-12-1890 in possibly Coles County, Illinois. I have links to John in Coles, Edgar and possibly Vermilion counties. The reason I believe there is a link to this John and Frederick, is that my ggrandfather named his 1st son Everett Fred, and his second son Fred L. I'm think the name Fred was in honor of a family member. My Ggrandfather John A Chesley named his children: Everett Fred (son with his 1st wife), then with his 2nd wife: Fred Lynn (b. in WV), Arthur Paul (my grandfather, b. in Cincinnati OH), Helen T. (b. in OH) and Irene Mae Chesley (b. in Westmoreland County, PA). John moved around a lot and he died in West Virginia in 1930. Can anyone help???
thanks so much

Allen (Allen is spelled -en) is a bit of a mystery as yet- he was a noted Union Captain in the Civil War but first shows up in Edgar Co, IL census recs in 1860 with $10,600 value of land (ALOT of money then)
and living with Alexander and Mary Carr-laborers. Allen's place of birth shows Indiana (Ia-does not mean Iowa) I'm researching his origins.

There is Joseph T. & Carrie listed.
the Iliana Genealogical & Historical Society of Danville has marriage records form 1827 to 1915.
I am looking to find the maiden names of the 2 wives of my great-grandfathers' brother Joseph T(homas) Jones. Their first names were Carrie and Ada.
I can find Carrie listed on the 1910 census with Joseph and children, but nothing after that. I find Ada listed on the 1930 census with Joseph with no children; all having lived in the city of Danville.

I can't find the marriage records due to the lack of maiden names of these women. If anyone can help me fill in some blanks of my family I will appreciate it.

Brian,
I saw your response on this message board regarding Dennis and Ann Conover. They are my gr-gr-gr-grandparents. their daughter, Elizabeth, was my gr-gr-grandmother, married to Michael Lennon. Elizabeth died in 1894 in Catlin, and Michael died Oct. 16, 1905 in Catlin. Buried in Jones Grove Cemetery. I don't know what happened to Dennis Conover after his daughter married Calvin Canaday in 1856. My best guess is he was incapacitated in some way and gave his permission for her to marry through son, William Conover. Dennis's wife, Ann Conover, died sometime before 1870 and son, Edwin, died also before 1870 Census at age 34. I have been trying to locate who Dennis's parents were also. There was a Dennis Covenhoven in Harlingen, Somerset Co., NJ, born Sept 2, 1764. He was married to a Margaret Trim. The youngest child was a Joseph Conover born July 23, 1798. I am sure that Dennis Conover, born in 1800 was probably a son of this Dennis Covenhoven Conover. The other siblings have the some of the same names of Dennis Conover's children. Hope you are still checking this message board.

McKinster or McKinstry in Vermilion County in 1860

I'm looking for my ancestors who lived in Vermillion County, Illinois on the 1860 census, father Joseph McKinster (census says born in Ohio), wife Phoebe (or Phebe, Pheby), daughters Martha (1840, Ohio), Maria or Mariah, Mary and son George. Martha is my gggrandmother and her marriage record says McKinster, but family lore has it that her maiden name was McKinstry. I would think the marriage record is probably correct.

I'm trying to find ancestry of Joseph McKinster and wife Phoebe. Any help would be very welcome. Thank you.

She is the full sister to Joseph and Thomas Jackson and half sister to Nathan, Sarah, and Mary Jackson of Vermilion Co., Ill. Their mother is Nancy Elam, second wife of Joseph.

Know she was alive in 1846 when her father died.
Hi -

Looking for any information about John Nebeker and his wife Lurena (nee Fitzgerald). They lived in Danville in 1842 (but were married in Reily, Ohio in 1835). They left Vermilion county in 1846. They had several children born in Danville/Vermilion county including Ira (1839), Aaron (1840), Ashton (1843), and Rosella (1845). Does anyone have access to the 1840 Census of Vermilion County in particular - I figured this might give me information about where they lived.

Thanks in advance!

My name is Virgil Whitaker. My grandfathers was Charles Deward (CD) Whitaker, brother of your grandfather Earl Whitaker. Their family consisted of five children, Charles Deward, Nick, Earl, Ray and Vina. They had a house in Georgetown, IL. I saw your grandfather once as a young boy at Isaac's funeral in 1952. We have a copy of the marriage certificate of Issac Newton Whitaker and Nanny Brown from Hiattville Kansas in 1887. CD married Cecile George in Edgar County Illinois and had three children, Maurine, Virgil (my father) and Orville. They had a farm at the edge of Tuscola. The last of this family, Orville, just died last year in Fithian, Il.

The Clark County Guinnips are related to the Michigan Brittain/Mary Guinnips. I don't have my research handy and it has been a while since I have indulged my family history itch. But I do know they are connected. There was a father Brittain and a son Brittain coming out of New York via northern Ohio. I think the Clark County group were cousins to the son Brittain who went south while Brittain went north. If anyone is still out there interested, we could probably dig it out and make the connections with a little effort.

I am descended from the Brittain in MI. Mr gr-grandfather was one of his sons, Nelson, who left MI around the age of 15 and the descendants there never realized he existed.
If you have a library card and they have HeritageQuest in their database then look up Vermilion County and there is a book, History of Vermilion County, published 1911, Chicago: Pioneer Pub. Co., 1911, 1328 pgs.
