I have been researching Kuivenhoven (a Dutch family )for many years and very suprised at how few there are in the US. Someone recently wrote and told me that when the Kuivenhoven's came to America--they simplified their name by changing it to Conover! This won't help you right now but it is a little fact to tuck away in the back of your mind for later as you search in case you come to a dead end!

Brian ~ Do you know the parents or siblings of the Dennis Conover, husband of Ann, you mentioned earlier? Where in NJ did this couple come from, and when did they arrive in IL?

Thanks!

Brian,
I saw your response on this message board regarding Dennis and Ann Conover. They are my gr-gr-gr-grandparents. their daughter, Elizabeth, was my gr-gr-grandmother, married to Michael Lennon. Elizabeth died in 1894 in Catlin, and Michael died Oct. 16, 1905 in Catlin. Buried in Jones Grove Cemetery. I don't know what happened to Dennis Conover after his daughter married Calvin Canaday in 1856. My best guess is he was incapacitated in some way and gave his permission for her to marry through son, William Conover. Dennis's wife, Ann Conover, died sometime before 1870 and son, Edwin, died also before 1870 Census at age 34. I have been trying to locate who Dennis's parents were also. There was a Dennis Covenhoven in Harlingen, Somerset Co., NJ, born Sept 2, 1764. He was married to a Margaret Trim. The youngest child was a Joseph Conover born July 23, 1798. I am sure that Dennis Conover, born in 1800 was probably a son of this Dennis Covenhoven Conover. The other siblings have the some of the same names of Dennis Conover's children. Hope you are still checking this message board.
