I am trying to track down information on Charles "Fred" Collander, born abt 1882 in Illinois. My initial information is that he was born in San Jose in Logan County. In the 1900 census, he is listed in Elmhurst, Tazewell County living in the home of a man he is not related to. He is listed as an orphan. By 1917, he was in San Jose IL, where he filled out a draft registration card.

Attempts to find death records for a woman named Collander (his mother) from 1882-1900 have failed. Of course, she may have been unmarried and gave her son his father's name. I may try to find a birth certificate from Logan Co. Any ideas on ways to research this, or what institution he may have been at would be appreciated.

I also am looking for information about his wife, Viola Edna Collander. I do not have a maiden name. Only her married name is on her tombstone.

I am a descendant of their late son Merle Collander of Pekin, IL. They had another son, the late Roy Collander of Tazewell County.
