Albert P. Finley, John Finley

I am trying to track down information on my great-great grandfather. He was A. P. Finley who moved from Stark County, Illinois to Kansas with his family by covered wagon in 1882. This information was in my great grandfather's obituary. I don't know what the initials "A. P." stand for. I think that his wife's first name was Rachel.

I found that there was an Albert P. Finley who joined the 3rd Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War who residence was listed as Toulon.

I have clippings which were found in family records which are from the Stark County News discussing the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Finley who was born in Ohio in 1828 and came with his father, John, and mother to Stark County in 1839. His father was said have been a Stark County judge who died in Toulon in 1884.

I don't know what the relationship is between Andrew J. Finley and my A. P. Finley. I suspect that they might be brothers. I also have the obituary of Mary E. Lane, the sister of Andrew J. Finley and the daughter of John Finley.

I certainly would appreciate any information you could give me.

Yes Albert Porter Finley was a brother of Andrew Jackson Finley and their father was John Finley all of Stark County. There is a book published by Leslie McLaughlin titled "Our Book of Finleys and their Kingfolk Families" which gives extensive, well documented information on Judge John Finley and all of his children. If you are interested I will send address.

Re: Porter/Finley/Gaffney/Morgan ancestors

Greetings, Lila:

I am the ggg granddaughter of Daniel Porter (b. VA?) and Catherine Gaffney (b. PA).

Edward Porter (son of Daniel Porter and Catherine Gaffney), b. 1813, Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania), and his wife -- Clarissa POWELL Porter (b. N.Y.), are buried in Edna Township, Cass County, Iowa -- in the Reno Cemetery, near Cumberland, Iowa.
Many of my (Iowa) Porter ancestors are buried in this rural cemetery.

I would very much like to purchase a copy of the book entitled: "Our Book of Finleys and their Kinfolk Families," by Leslie McLaughlin
Could you please send me the address?

Take care, and
May God bless you and those you love...

Most sincerely,

Cathy PORTER-Maynard

I have just transcribed the 1865 Osceola Township, Stark County, Illinois State Census. It is located at http://myfamilybranches.com/census/stark/

There is a Albert P Finley listed. There were 1 male and 1 female in the household between ages of 10-20 and 1 male from 20-30 and one female from 30-40.

Hope you take a look. I will be transcribing all of Stark County, Illinois 1865 Census

It's been a long time since your post. I have an Albert Porter Finley and an Andrew Jackson Finley that appear in my tree because their brother, William Patterson Finley married into my family. Their father was a judge. Let me know if your still searching this one.
