I'm looking for descendants of two members of my family.
George Baff age 25, his wife Mary and baby daughter moved from Scotland to the US in 1853, moving to Illinois in 1854.

William Baff, his cousin, born 1847, moved to the US in the late 1860's, married Nancy Mariah Pomeroy from Illinois and they moved to Rock Island.
They had four children George (who remained unmarried) Mary ((married Peter Marx), Thomas (married Clara and had 2 children, Floyd and Zelah - Floyd later married Mary producing Joyce and Archie), William (married Florence and they had two daughters, one I believe called Genevieve).
I've tracked William through Ancestry and the census material which details his Scottish heritage, but I've had no luck with George b 1828.
I would be great to reconnect with our lost family branch.
Can you help?

June

Scott, Go to the website www.qcmemory.org, over on the left click on "local index database" type in your Linn surname. In the obits section you will find Mrs. John Linn, Davenport Democrat 3/14/1958 and Helena Linn 3/15/1958, same paper. That should help you finding death data on John W. Then contact the Special collections Dept. at the Davenport library. Helena lives with married daughter Constance in 1920 enumerated as Lena Linn and in 1930 with the other married daughter Elsie indexed as Helene F. LIEM. Dick

Hi Franklin Beeding married Sarah lizabeth Allmandinger. They had 4 children. The oldest Murlen is my great grandfather. Sarah is buried in a cemetary in Millersburg Illinois. As a matter of fact, tonight I found in a closet of a relative the graver marker for Sarah. I also found a partial map of the section of cemetary where she is buried. It does not mention Franklin. If you would like to contact me (I have an extensive family tree book my grandmother put together in the early 70's, my email is kingbingkaraoke@gmail.com and my phone is 563-6047-7039.

Thanks,
Bob

Seeking information on Abner J. Hull and his wife, Mary Hull who lived in Rock Island County. He died there in 1902 and she died in 1905. Both are buried in Calvary Cemetery. They had a son named Frank W. Hull who lived in Rock Island. They had a son named Manning J. Hull who lived in Rock Island County before moving to Minnesota. In the late 1890's they all worked for RI Lumber. Later Frank worked on making carriages. Would like to find out if there are burial records. I already have the death certificates but they have no parental information. Is there any record of Frank? Any info on this family may help.........Thank you............Shirley Karle.......manpapa@cwnet.com

Mornin' Doug, Perhaps the contents of this response should have been your initial requeast. Knowing that you already had the 1910 data and including it in your post would have led a volunteer in another direction. The only thing we should ever assume in genealogy is that we are the only ones researching our lines. You are assuming that any Pinkley or Waller descendents are also into genealogy and monitoring this forum. You might want to try for the baptismal records for Clifford, Bessie B. & Harold Waller. If you know there are still Pinkley descendents in the area have you tried other means to contact them? Good luck in solving your mystery. Dick

Follow your Pinkley family up the census ladder D.D. Use the data as tools in your research. The family is already in Rockford in 1900. Mary A. is enumerated as born Eng. In the 1910 household are daughter and grand-daughter Celia May and Bessie B. Waller. Dick

The New Hamsphire Historical Society - The Tuck Library sent me marriage listings, page 1211 with "0ctober 20, 1811 Mr. Abraham B. Adams to Wife Sarah Elliott both of New Hampshire". A place wasn't given but I assume it was Boscawen, NH.

Your Enoch Elliot Adams (born February 17, 1812, Boscawen, NH according the certificate I received from the Boscawen Town Clerk, NH) was their son as well as my ancestor Alfred Addison Adams. Both of Abraham Brickett (IV) and Sarah's daughters, Sarah Helen Adams English died 9-24-1853 and Lucinda Melissa Adams died 9-8-1851 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

I believe the family was in Newbury with property in Boscawen as early as 1767. It wasn't until 1796 Abraham Brickett moved permanently, after this father's death (Abraham III b. 5-10-1713 in Newbury d. 5-29-1795 and buried Newbury) to Boswacen. Alfred was born in Vermont 9-18-1818 so Abraham Brickett and Sarah were living there until the 1830's when they sold out and moved to Lawrenceburg. The Bradford, VT Burials 1770-1997 by Arthur L. Hyde has on page 24 under Adams -- Mary Adams, d. June 8, 1830, age 80 yrs, consort of Abraham Adams. Buried in Upper Plain Cemetery Section M, lot# 16.

Last February, I ran across Mrs. Sarah B. Adams on the Internet in Obituaries and wrote to the Lawrenceburg Public Library. They sent me her obituary: Mrs. Sarah B. Adams, wife of Abraham B. Adams, for many years a resident of this city, died at Rapids City, Rock Island County, Ill., on the 10th day of January, 1867, at the advanced age of seventy-seven years. Note in the information: she was survived by her husband Abraham Adams who died in July (24th) of 1873. She's buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery (Volume 4) Port Byron, Rock Island County, IL., Block 4, Lots 1 & 2

Another genealogist I've shared information with thought the mother of the children of Abraham Brickett Adams who he may have married after the first Sarah died in the last years of his life was another Sarah. Since I was working on a direct line, I didn't check into it. However, you said he had moved to Chicago after Sarah died. I've run across other reports of his going to Chicago as a sheriff but one history of Illinois said Illinois was referred to as the Chicago area which encompassed a larger area than just the City of Chicago. Which would explain why he was in Rock Island county and still gone to Chicago.
You gotta love these little puzzles.

A researcher from florida called me a few years ago about Enoch Eliot Adams, looking for information for his client to become a SAR. He said Enoch E. had been married before he went to Indiana and had a son, Jeremy sticks in my mind. Bradford MA Vital records to 1850 - Ancestry.com have Enoch Adams married 9-17-1825 in Bradford To Mary Ann Willey. The 9-8-1850 census City of Lawrenceburg, Dearborn County, IN sent to me by the Lawrenceburg Historical Society Line 998/1023 lists:
Enoch E Adams, 38 years, male, Bookstore, worth 1000 born New Hampshire
Lydia, 35 years, born Vermont
John Q., 17 years, born Indiana
Adalade, 8 years, born Indiana
Mary A., 6 years, born Indiana
Henry C., 4 years, born, Indiana
George W., 2 years, born Indiana
A hand written note (from the lady at the Lawrenceburg Society) at the bottom of the page says: Enoch E. Adams married Lydia Kenedy 30, June 1840, Book 5 (can't read the rest) The two of them show up on further census records. So if he was married to Mary Ann, she died between 1825 and 1840.

From Biographical Portrait of Rock Island County, published 1885, p 667, Volune 4
Captain Alfred Adams: born 9-6-1818, Orange Co, VT. Came to Indiana-Steamboat captain on Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. Came to Rapids City 1852.

Illinois Land Deeds show Abraham B. and Enoch E. purchasing land in Cordova Township, Rock Island County about 1850-51 where Enoch stayed until he died at the age of 104. I got Alfred Addison's son Abraham Brickett Elliott Adams's probate from the Illinois Regional Archives Depository, University Library, Western Illinois University, 1 University Circle, Macomb, IL 61455-1390 after I wrote requesting it. Enoch E. Adams is listed on the index. His will/probate was on one of microfiche I looked at in Salt Lake City when I thought since Enoch was listed as a son in Abraham's obituary and if I could prove Alfred to Enoch, it would solve my problem of finding documentation that Alfred was Abraham B.'s son. What I was looking for, was a reference "to my brother Alfred Addison". The will/probate went on forever and I didn't print it but it was comphrensive. I did eventually find Alfred Addison's obituary in one of the local illinois newspapers and it said "son of Abraham B. Adams". It only took me 10 years to complete the documentation.

I'm not sure I have updated my pedigree sheets and they don't have a lot of the information on them, but I would be glad to share. I'm assuming you know the Abraham Adams Jr III,son of Abraham Adams II, son of Matthew Adams, son of Abraham Adams, son of Robert Adams stuff.

It was Abraham Adams, Jr (III) that was the Revolutionary War Patriot, who march to Lexington with Lt. James Brickett's Militia, April 19, 1776. His wife Mary Brickett Adams was a sister to James Brickett.

Thank you ansnwering my post. . .keep in touch -- Jane

For whatever reason I seem to have lost my source info, but I have him as a Henry C. F. Harttung born 1838 married to a Doris Inteman in 1867 in Manhattan...
Is your Henry C. Harttung the same or where in Germany did he come from, please...

Hi,
I wish this was the right Beeney line. I'm just starting to get into my family history. I am a distant relative to the Carol Coulter (from original post). Our direct decendant is Jane Ann Beeney b. 1846 in England. Her parents were Isabel & William Beeney. Jane Ann married William J. Coulter 10 May 1865. She died 11 June 1913. Does any of this sound familiar? I'm not sure who the Wilson was that Carol talks about. He may have been Jane Ann's grandfather? William & Isabel Beeney were my ggg-grandparents.

Thank you so much, Jane. You've been very generous. I'm new at this and am having a great time.

I'll enjoy sorting through all you sent. Yes, I had the history back to Robert Adams of Newbury. But I was having difficulty confirming the connection with the Indiana, Illinois group. You've helped a lot. John Q Adams, b 1861 is my great grandfather. I found the bit about Abraham B. moving to Chicago in "The John Elliot Family of Boscawen,NH" You've probablly seen that.

The stories and 'little tidbits' are the fun part, aren't they? Following the dates etc is fine, but it's in the stories and histories that it comes alive.

Thanks again, Karen

My Adams line follows yours to Indiana. Was your Abraham IV married to Sarah Elliott? If so, I follow through to Rock Island, but through his other son Enoch who did have a son and a grandson named John Quincy. My clan then goes to Whiteside Co, Ill. If it's the same line, I'd be happy to read anything you have on Abraham and Enoch. My Abraham moved to Chicao and remarried as Sarah had died in Indiana.

I found his obituary, it actually gives quite a lot of info about his Swedish roots. The important things I found was his daughters last names and his sisters.

Once I get the obituary for his daughters or his son in laws to get the grandchildren names it should be a pretty good chance in finding living descendants to give you some names and addresses.

Carl's obituary is attached for you to download. I contrasted his obituary so its much brighter and easier to read.

I hope to find some more info tomorrow.

Enjoy!
~Jennifer

P.S. I also recommend looking at Augustana College Swenson Center webisite. It has microfilm church records of Midwest Churches. The ladies who work there speak fluent Swedish.

I am interested in the descendants of Josiah & Sarah (Meadows) Wilcher, of whom Patrick Henry and his son Ezra are descended. Have you looked up your tree, Mike, to see if you are also descended from Ezra? Pretty cool heirloom, especially if it's your ancestor's! jeff.simmons5@comcast.net

My grandmother was Mary Sedivy. I'm the youngest daughter of her oldest son, Roland. She died when I was only 2, so I would love to know more about her and our family history. I've hooked up with some cousins trying to find someone who still knows Czech so we can revitalize the language in the family. I would love to hear from you!

Looking for the name of Celia May Pinkley's 1st husband and any children they had. Celia was the daughter of Sherman D. and Mary A. (Phillips) Pinkley. She was born in Rock Island on 22 Sep 1884 and died 6 Mar 1967 in Winnebago Co, IL. She is buried in Rockford along with her 2nd husband, George Haines.

Thanks for your help

Dick, maybe my message wasn't clear. What I'm looking for is the 1st name of Celia's 1st husband. I know his last name is Waller. In the 1910 census, Celia is divorced and living with her parents and her daughter Bessie. The census also says Celia has 3 living children. Why would only Bessie be living with her? I'm guessing Waller might have kept the other two. I started with the Rock Island County query just because the Pinkley's were early settlers there and there are still Pinkley's living in the area. I also have info that Celia's father(Sherman) moved back to East Moline and died there in 1940. I had hoped possibly a Pinkley researcher would have seen my post and had all the answers.

Thanks for your reply and any other help you can offer.

Doug

I have been serching in that area for quite some time now. As a matter of fact I grew up in that area. The best site I have found is: www.cyberdriveillinois/departments/archives/archives.html It's short for IRAD. You can look up deaths, marriage, & births depending on the year. At the top of the site click on "Data base" Hope this helps.
