photos from Olney, Illinois (looking for families they belong to)

When I find photos, Bibles, and etc. at antiques stores and auctions that have “lost” their families, I try to purchase them and find their family. I recently came across an album of almost all unidentified photos (62 photos total). Although the task of determining who the people are seems nearly impossible, many of the photos are identified only by the studio name and city/state the photos were taken.
All of the photos I have added to Ancestry on a tree titled “Items From Auctions - LOOKING for their families UPDATED 2013” I have added the photos by the towns listed for the studio (for example, the “name” of the person in the tree is listed as “unknown”, with the residence listed as “St Joseph MO” and ALL the photos for that town are listed in that “unknown” person’s media.
The locations identified in the photos are:
(8) – Beatrice, Nebraska
(1) DeSoto, Missouri
(1) Fairbury, Nebraska
(2) Galesburg, Illinois
(1) Grand Forks, North Dakota
(24) Marysville, Kansas
(1) Olney, Illinois
(1) Springfield, Illinois
(9) St. Joseph, Missouri (one identified as “Isabelle” and the other identified as F.A. Butterley)
(1) St. Louis, Missouri
(1) Trenton, Missouri
(12) unidentified location, but one identified as “Lewis Morrow Highfield”
If you would like to view the photos in case there is some that you may be able to identify, please send me an email at: aawm720@gmail.com and I will either email you the photos you are interested in, or if you have an ancestry account, I will add you as a guest to the tree so you can view the photos.
My goal is to get the original photos back to the families in which they belong, only recovering the cost I have in them (I do not make any money doing this; I only care about them getting back to their rightful family!  )
Hi Sandra. Thank you so much for posting the pictures on findagrave! My husband is Kenny Gerber. Wanda may be a dead-end for info, she is very private. Maybe we can write back and forth via email, and together 'piece' the family's history together.

Marcal:

I know this is an old thread but I'm replying anyway! :)

We share Henry Herman as a common ancestor (he was my 3rd great grandfather). Like David, I'm descended from Epolite's brother, Forlisco Robert Eilenstein. My great grandmother spoke occasionally of "Uncle Eep", Epolite.

I was told that same story by my great grandmother (Ona Blanche), that they came by boat to New Orleans. Another part of the story is that he worked on the docks and his sister (whose name I've never heard) gathered leftover sugar to make (cookies? sweets?) to sell.

You've found that H.H. was a junior, that is, his father was also Henry Herman? Who was Wilhelmina?

Ian

Hi.
The family of Harry & Edith Elie are looking for information about your great grandfathers' farm.
They purchased the farm in 1946. There are several members living in Olney now. They are writing a family history book and are trying to find pictures of the farm or any mention of the farm. Unfortunately there was a fire at the courthouse in Olney and many records were lost.
Most of the information on your mom's family is in the Stanger tree here. Please review it. If I came across more info, I will let your know. My e-mail is Dcraig3529@msn.com.
I am married to Nancy Elie and live in Virginia.

The Olney Comm. Coll. gave me an address that is no longer in use. I would like to ask her if she would be able to help me look at the wills and probates for Richland County Illinois. I am looking for the probate for Joseph Newsom/Newsome/Newson/Newsum b ca 1775-1779 VA and lived in Olney and Preston, Richland County starting in about (first recorded) 1850 and 1860 Censuses. He is not in the 1870 Census. So, a death date between 1860 and 1870 would be applicable. He is buried in the Saulmon Cemetery in Montgomery, Gibson County, IN with no dates on the stone.

Searching for family of John Henry Trueblood who married Gertrude Conover Mason in Vigo County, Indiana July, 1926. This was his second marriage, and her third as first husband William M. Mason had died and I do not have a second marriage record. Gertrude's father and mother were Ralph R. Conover and Ellen/ Elnore Snedeker who came to Vigo County, Indiana from Newark, New Jersey about 1838. Would appreciate a picture of Gertrude and documentation on who were the Conover grandparents of Gertrude. Ralph R. /Ralphlot Conover was born in Middlesex County, New Jersey.Thank you. rreedy@mics.net

I’m not related to any member of this family.

Facts you should know about the early census records -
All census records [1790 – 1840] prior to the 1850 census ONLY listed the head of household; whether male or female.

NO specific age was stated for any family member
NO place of birth was stated – city, state, or country
NO city, town, or village is stated – only the county; however some census takers listed the township
NO street address was stated
NO marital status was stated – single, married, widowed, or divorced
NO family relationship was stated – brother, sister, cousin, son, daughter, wife, inlaw, etc…
NO occupation was stated
NO parental birthplaces are stated
NO race was stated [but assume “white”]

1850, 1860 & 1870 census records do not show family relationships, marital status or parental birthplaces.

Step children are not enumerated as “step” children
Adopted children are not enumerated as “adopted”
Grand children are not enumerated as “grand children”
Orphaned children were not enumerated as "orphan"

1850 is the 1st census that shows all family members

1880 is the 1st census that shows parental birthplaces and family relationships +++

1870 -
Name: Cager Stultz
Age in 1870: 35
Birth Year: abt 1835
Birthplace: Virginia
Home in 1870: Martinsville, Henry, Virginia
Race: Black
Gender: Male
Post Office: Martinsville

Cager Stultz 35, VA - works on farm
Caroline Stultz 35, VA
Mary J Stultz 14, VA
Susan Stultz 13, VA
Dora Stultz 11, VA
Lovetta Stultz 9, VA
Katy Stultz 7, VA
Agness Stultz 3, VA
Robert Stultz 2/12, VA

I would guess that in 1860 Cager & Caroline were slaves and would not be listed on the regular census records.

I don't know how to attch anything either. It sort of messes everything up now that rootsweb has partnered with Ancestry - they don't let you do anything for free. I have a tree on Ancestry, but I'm not a paying member, so I can't see a whole lot. It does say you can attach a file at the bottom of this post, above where it says POST or Preview, maybe that will work.

Rawlings (1877-1902) and Mary Henrietta Stewart which my notes indicate was born in 1838, making her many years older. Not sure if this is a fit. Many of my records are from older family members in the 1970s and from an old family bible.

My father-in-law was born there too. He jokes about it, saying he was born in a sanitarium lol. He loved to see people's faces when he'd tell them that.

Hello,

It has been awhile since you have posted or updated this query, but thought I would respond anyway. I have Stephen Cleaver King's parents as Daniel King, b. 1782, Tygarts Valley, Randolph Co., Virgina and Mary (Polly) Cleaver, b. 7 Feb 1794. Her parents were William Cleaver and Susannah Westfall. I have more info if you are interested. I am a descendant of Stephen Cleave King and Hannah Cotterell. I believe Stephen's other wife, Rachel was the daughter of Joshua Musgrove and Hannah Worthington. I have Joshua's parents as being Joshua Musgrove and Eleanor Frazee.

Hello Cousin! I think we may have had contact several years ago when I first started researching before I married....my maiden name is Gibson.

My line is through Nicholas' son Robert. There seems to be several different stories about the mother of Nicholas being an Indian(daughter of Chief Shikellamy) that was killed by white men and also another story about her being killed by Indians when Nicholas was captured.

You can contact me at my email.... housewifeandhomeschool@yahoo.com

Jenny
