Margaret A. Wilson b.November 1828

I am trying to locate the family of Margaret A. Wilson b. November 1828, IL. I have reason to think she may have been a daughter of one of the early Randolph Co. Wilsons.
In 1850 she was living in Perry Co., IN, with the John Dunn family. Also, living in the HH was Matilda Hatfield b.1810 in KY. In 1851, Margaret married my gg-gdf, in Perry Co.
The 1850 census, for Perry Co., has Alexander & Rachel Wilson age 34 & 29 respectively. I traced their marriage to Randolph Co. She was Rachel Stephenson.
I suspect that Margaret had a very brief marriage to a Dunn before she married my gg-gdf. I cannot find a marriage record for them in IL.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. This has been a brick wall for years.

My maiden name is Creely and I cannot find anything on my great great grandfather, Robert Creely (was spelled differently at that time) before he married Mildred Dandridge in 1841 in Lawrence County, Alabama. Robert and Mildred settled in what is now Lee County, Mississippi around 1848 and purchased land (at that time the land was in Pontotoc and Itawamba Counties - Lee County had not been formed). Robert died in 1856 leaving Mildred with several children, my great grandfather was James Lewis (Jimmie) and was one of the youngest. A lot of the land purchased by Robert and Mildred is still in the Creely family.
Do you have any Creely males that would be interested in a DNA testing project? My father who is 80 just had the DNA testing done through Ancestry.com.
Would like to have any info you have on the Creelys.

Natalie

Becareful as not all Ruroede's are Ruroede's but may be variations of other names. My ancestor's are all from Randolph County, but Immigrated to New Orleans and came up the Mississippi. I don't even know how they spell there name in Germany as it's spelled many ways on the ship records to the land records even in the same document.

The name eventually became Rury, but many times spelled Rurode, Ruroede, Rurverde, Rurade, Rurede, Ruhrede, Rurehde. They spoke German, so it was spelled phonetically when written, so try different spellings. I didn't find your Ruroede, but if you run across some that aren't your branch let me know they might be mine.

hi, my name is dorothy lajuan bockhorn, i think sophia ruroede is also my gg,ma. i know they came from hannover, saxony, germany. trying to find out info about her parents. thought your research may go deeper than mine on the bockhorn side. my dad was kelsey bockhorn, his dad was elvin a. bockhorn and mother hulda knope bockhorn. trying to find info on huld knope also. it seems that is a flatline on her to because of their name being spelled different and such. thanks lajuan

Your information matches mine. Here is what info I have on JBB1:

Jean Baptiste BARBEAU was born in 1693. He died about 1743 (there is some question about this date though - see note on 1729 below). Jean Baptiste and his wife Silvie LaMoine (married on 10 Jan 1717) embarked on the Seine bound for Louisiana from Lorient, Nantes, France, 11 Aug 1720. He was listed as a brick maker, a worker for the Dancenis Concessions. This same Jean Baptiste was possibly the same man who was killed coming down the Mississippi River at the time of the Natchez massacre in 1729.

After the death of Jean Baptiste, Silvie LeMoine BARBEAU married Jean Pierre HARDY dit La Verge, in New Orleans. In the Louisiana Historical Quarterly there are court entries over HARDY suing the BARBEAU step-sons for a house on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Apparently Hardy abused his wife, and she asked for a separation and division of property, but the council ordered them to live together for 6 months. Nonetheless, the older of her sons (Jean Baptiste the elder) says he is capable of looking after their own property.

Also, here is a note from "Glimpses of Prairie du Rocher, Its Past and Present History 1722-1942": A Festive Day in 1779: On a certain day in January 1779, (the exact date cannot now be ascertained) the little village of Prairie du Rocher was all aglow with excitement. A party of soldiers had arrived. It was a detachment under the command of Col. George Rogers Clark, and they decided to spend the evening at the home of Capt. Jean Baptiste Barbeau....
(that would likely be JBB4, son of JBB3, based on the date and his rank)

Do you have any information on JBB1's or Silvie's (Sylvia) parents in France? I know of another BARBEAU researcher who has looked without success.

Rik

Bernadine was 18 years old, and Earl was "over 21," which is all the form asked for. They were married in Perryville, Perry County, Missouri on May 2, 1942, though both of them were from Percy, Randolph County, Illinois. (See above: he went into military service two months later.)

I found an obit and a Social Security Death Index record for Bernadine [Ruehmkorff] Witbracht, but couldn't get the Ancestry obit archive to cough up the whole obit. She was born 17 Jan 1926 and died 8 Sep 2004 in Percy.

There were at least two other WITBRACHT families in the Percy area during Earl's lifetime, but I do not know how they were related. As a lot of what I found relates to living people, I'm not posting it at this time.

My grandmother is from Randolph county, her maiden name was Houston. There are McCormicks, Houstons, Bowles, Boling and Betts on her side of the family. I know some of them came from Ireland and some are cherokee. I do have a Margaret McCormick, and seem to recall the name McMillan but haven't linked that name yet. You may want to look in Sparta, ILL also and Caledonia Cemetery also, because the Irish were close knit.

Thanks for responding. No, it's not St. Philip in East St. Louis. I have those church records from familysearchlabs online. I grew up one block from that church. This St. Philippe I was asking about was the mission church for Ft.De Chartres in Randolph County, I have since learned since by my original post. Their records are also on the same website with the Illinois Diocese of Belleville ones - but since it was an early mission, the extant records are mixed up with St. Joseph in Prairie du Rocher - I was trying to place it in a town. Thanks anyway.
Peggy
I appreciate the information. I have the post 1850 marriage index, and the pre 1850 marriage index seems to be missing the marriage I am looking for. It shows a John Jr, but the John I am looking for is the son of Thomas McBride, and the marriage would be around 1830, since the birth of his children started in 1832. I did not know about the probates, and the one for Thomas Sr could be interesting.
I'm also still hoping that there might be a cemetery book for Randolph County.
Thank you,
Steve

I am looking for information on the deaths and burial of
Thomas McBride 1776-1841
John McBride 1799- (between 1860-1869) Both lived about 3 miles south of Baldwin, in Randolph County.
Cynthia (James) McBride, born near Red Bud, lived several places between Sparta and Red Bud, last known south of Red Bud 1860 census. Born about 1832, and died between 1862-1866. May have died after childbirth near Sparta.
I know of several McBrides buried in Nelson Cemetery, but don't have any record of the above. Is there a transcribed cemetery book for Randolph County that might be at a library?
Also, I have not been able to find a correct marriage record for John McBride. Must have married around 1830, there was a "Jane" listed in the 1850 and 1860 census.
Any little piece of info would be helpful. I have reprints of the Randolph County biographical history from 1883, and family maps of Randolph County. Are there any other books that might help?
Thank you,
Steve

My source shows 5 people with the Jean Baptiste Barbeau (JBB) name in the first 4 generations. More in later generations. Interestingly JBB1 named both of his sons JBB (JBB2 and JBB3), like George Foreman did.

JBB2, b. 1721 in New Orleans, d. 1746 at Fort de Chartres, married Catherine La Jeunesse ALLARD. Catherine was the daughter of Pierre Henri ALLARD and Jeanne GERMAIN.

JBB3, b 27 Sep 1727 in New Orleans, d. 1810 at Fort de Chartres, married Mary Jeanne LE GRAS. Mary was the daughter of Jean Ignace Le GRAS and Jeanne GERMAIN.

Jeanne Germain was married 4 times - 1st to Pierre Henri ALLARD, 2nd to Jean Ignace LE GRAS, 3rd to Unknown, and 4th to Jean Chabot dit Petit Jean.

So two brothers with the same name married two half-sisters!

Rikard Hill

A definitive published work on the DeRousse clan is Ruth Menard's book "A French Connection II". It contains almost 1600 members of the clan in 78 pages and tracks the family through 13 generations from 1675 to the mid-1990s.

The Henry DeRousse of interest was likely the Henry born in 1839 in Kaskaskia, IL. He was the son of Charles DeRousse, b. 1797 in Kaskaskia, and Modesto Chamberlain; they married on 30 May 1825 in Kaskaskia. Afraid I don't have any further information on where he is buried.

Do you happen to know Flossie's parents names?
What pages I have on Tilden cemetery looks like they were done by Ada Torrens and stop with a few 1950 burials.
Not sure if it has been updated since then?
I don't see any Kleinberg's listed.
Hill's listed are as follows:Josiah (no dates given),Minnie I. 1882-1935
Chris R. b.2-11-1907 Olive- wife of Chris b.8-26-1908 d.1-16-1932
Delilah b.1-8-1846 d.1-7-1904 Elbert Lee 1910-1941
Chris C. b.4-28-1866 d.3-7-1950
I have no connection to this family

Hi Teresa,

Thank you for responding to my e-mail. We did locate the Tilden Cemetery, it is very pretty. Flossie & Joe Kleinberg are buried there, Flossie died in 1991 in Riverside, CA & Joe died in 1973 in St. Louis.

Flossie's parents were Christopher C. Hill & Eliza Belle Thompson.

Again, thanks for e-mailing me, it is nice when you get a response to the postings.

Karen
Farmington, MO

Good evening,

Flossie's parents are Christopher C. Hill & Eliza Belle Thompson.

Flossie was born 17 Apr 1901 & died 18 Aug 1991 in Riverside, CA and buried at the Tilden Cemetery. Her husband, Joe Kleinbeg was born 24 Mar 1899 & died 19 Jan 1973, he is also buried at the Tilden Cemetery. They were married in 1947.

We did locate the cemetery, it is a very pretty cemetery and also found where Joe & Flossie are buried. We are descendants of the Kleinberg's. Joe would have been my husband's uncle. The Kleinbergs are from the St. Louis area, so this may be why you don't have any listed. They didn't have any children and apparently lived in California.

Thank you for responding to my e-mail

I noticed your message to another person regarding Tilden Cemetery. I have a request if possible. I'm trying to locate these people that I believe are buried in Tilden Cemetery.

Myrtle Terry, d. 1912
Mary Emma Terry, date of death unknown
Ruth Adeline Terry, date of death unknown

If you still have availability to the records for Tilden Cemetery, would you mind very much looking these up for me? I live out of state and is very difficult for me to get back to that area to do the research myself.

Thank you,
Carrie in NC

If you have already found the cemetery, I hope you were successful. If not, the Tilden cemetery is located at the east edge of town along route 13. The village hall can help find the location of gravesites. If you are unable to get to Tilden, I live 5 minutes from and grew up in Tilden, although these names do not sound familiar.
Teresa
