Looking for any info on the LEVI LONG CEMETERY located at the corner of 50 and Lake Thunderbird Drive, Putnam, Putnam County, IL.

I'm a descendant of Waitman and Mary Susan Dunn and I've visited the cemetery. What are you looking for specifically?

I recently came upon that old cemetery while taking a walk. I was just curious about it as it looked abandoned. I wondered about the history of the people buried there.
In the meantime, I stopped at the farmhouse next to it and learned that they've straightened it up.
Wasn't looking for anything specific, I just happen to be an "old cemetery" fanatic. My old cemeteries are all in Kentucky and I don't get out there very often....so I've taken to wandering in old cemeteries here. And this one caught my fancy.
Do you know who all is interred there? There seem to be more graves than headstones.
I know in Kentucky the people were poor and couldn't afford tombstones, so they just put big field stones to mark the graves.

I think somewhere I came across a list (maybe at the Bureau Co. Genealogical Society? I can't remember) that did indeed suggest more people were interred that there currently are headstones. I don't know who every last person is, but Levi Long is the stepfather of Waitman Dunn. Mary S. Dunn is Waitman's wife. Jonathan Long is Levi Long's son and Helen Frazier Long is his wife. The whole clan originated from a part of Virginia that, I believe, is now in West Virginia. Waitman Dunn still has many descendants in the area.

I am a descendent of Levi Long and I also have walked that cemetary and piece of ground. It was an overwhelming experience. I would have to go back in my notes, to provide accurate information but I believe Levi lived in the house that is on the property. We were shown some history of the house by the present owners who were very gracious during our visit.
