Former Barry Citizen Passed
Away at Son's Home In Rock Island
Thomas Welbourn, former Barry man 76 yeard old, who had been living in Topeka, Kansas, died Wednesday, June 20, (1928) at 10:30 p.m. at the home of his son, Ralph R. Welbourn, 1603 Twentieth avenue, Rock Island, Ill. Mr. Welbourn, who had been visiting in Rock Island, had been ill for about ten days, infimities of age casuing his death.
Born in Swansea, Yorkshire, England, April 14, 1852, the son of William and Anna Welbourn, Mr. Welbourn came to the United States when 4 years old. His parents settled near Quincy, Ill., and Mr. Welbourn made his home there until his marriage to Miss Esther Elliot of Griggsville, Ill., on October 30, 1878. For many years the couple lived near Barry. Mr. Welbourn united with the Barry Methodist church more than 50 years ago and lived a faithful and active christian life until his death.
Three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Welbourn moved from Barry to Topeka, Kansas, where they made their home with their son, Robert A. Welbourn. Mrs. Welbourn died there two years ago.
Surviving are four sons, Ralph of Rock Island, Robert of Topeka, and Harry E. and Howard L. Welbourn of Westallis, Wis., two sisters, Mrs. Anna Gibson of near Barry, Ill., and Mrs. Margaret Ballou of Escondido, Calif, and 12 grandchildren.
The remains were brought to Barry and funeral services were held from the Methodist church at 11:00 o'clock Friday morning, June 22, in charge of Rev. Chester A. Jocobs, pastor of the Christian church of this city, who officiated in the absence of the regular pastor, Rev. C. W. Hamand. Burial was made in Park Lawn cemetery. All the sons were here for the funeral.
